  1. CW: Women’s football; inappropriate sponsorship

    @gem_abbott

    If its a "mixed" team should we assume half the spaces should be proactively filled by girls? The #FA are talking about equal access by 2024, but where is the guidance?

  3. CW: Women’s football; inappropriate sponsorship

    @gem_abbott

    Pigging backing on this discussion as I'm struggling to find resources on encouraging equal access to teams in primary schools. There's lots of talk on all the big websites and corporate sponsorship strategies from #Disney and #weetabix but very few resources one can take to a #headteacher to ask for fairer access.

  8. CW: UK Housing; death of a young child

    @gem_abbott So awful. Where to even start with the state of #housing in the country? Horrifying conditions for social housing residents; appalling service from social housing providers; #leaseholders being trapped, ripped off and bankrupted by the #CladdingScandal; shoddy, unsafe newbuilds; members of the public being killed by building site accidents and nothing being done (happened twice within a mile of me in a few years).

  9. CW: UK Politics, Tampon Tax, Brexit

  12. CW: What I’m reading; Foster

    I want to read everything #ClaireKeegan has ever written. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a writer so sparing with her words to such impact. Every single line is measured to perfection. Just glorious.

  13. CW: What I’m reading; The Last Colony

    #TheLastColony by #PhilippeSands is extraordinary. And I find myself wondering (once a legal campaigner, always a legal campaigner) what the plan is to force the next Govt to stop ignoring the rights of the Changossians - it will surely be much harder for Starmer et al to continue to ignore UN rulings to return #TheChagosIslands as May & her successors have done?

  14. CW: What I’m reading; what a shame

    I quite enjoyed #WhatAShame by #AbigailBergstrom but didn’t love it. Perhaps I was a bit older than the intended audience. I also felt a bit cheated by the promise of the protagonist using “ever more extreme methods of attempting to move on” - nothing felt *that* extreme to me!

    Not just any jumpsuit either. One with a TIE at the neck. Doing a wee in this would take 5 minutes at least.

    This surely wins a prize for the least practical uniform ever designed?!

  16. CW: What I’m reading; Invisible Child

    My favourite book of 2023 so far - genuinely extraordinary

    “A work of luminous and riveting prose, Elliott’s Invisible Child reads like a page-turning novel. It is an astonishing story about the power of resilience, the importance of family and the cost of inequality—told through the crucible of one remarkable girl”

  18. CW: What I’m reading; The Silence of the Girls

    Have you read #TheSilenceOfTheGirls by #PatBarker? I’m only about 5 years late! I don’t know how I missed it, but saw the sequel in a ‘best of 2022’ round up (also now on my list)

    I LOVED this - a feminist retelling of the Iliad, from the perspective of Briseis (Achilles’ ‘prize’ & ‘bed slave’)

  24. It can be hard being the only Scottish one in your family.

    My husband is out in the garden with the kids, filming a “goal celebration” round for an extended family Christmas quiz. They’ve done Messi, Ronaldo, Peter Crouch’s robot…

    And their finale? Gazza’s dentist’s chair from Euro 96.

    I have refused to play the role of Colin Hendry 😆🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😭⚽️
