NFL nearly made a Browns move that would’ve been unthinkable a year ago
When was the last time the Cleveland Browns were must-watch television? Admittedly, they might still not be there…

Today's project: look for tools that can scan sets of video files and check them for corruption or defects. This is likely to be the usual dance of choosing between command line advice, code to trust or a project to adopt.
As this is not a critical need I have, I'll only be considering FOSS options.
Context is having a PVR for time shifting of TV viewing but reception issues cause problems playing back some files so I'd like to know of those before discovering half way through watching.
I'm so happy for these people that this is the highest grossing live stage capture film of all time they honestly deserve it so much

A minor but useful line of thought - that I got from reading an interview with Gloria Steinem - was to respond to various critiques with the question: "compared to what?"
It can be surprising how well this works - i.e. to highlight when a criticism is just there to sound negative.
Other useful counterparts are:
- "how does this help?"
- "whereas you would have done (/ have us do) what?"
And all these are useful to apply to one's own utterances, as a value check before emitting or publishing.

Seven Bucks a Head: The Scandalous Child Resettlement Scheme That Built a Nation by Ken Cuthbertson, 2026
A searing account of Britain's child resettlement scheme and the forgotten children sent to build Canada. In the seven decades between 1869 and 1939, more than 100,000 so-called "gutter children" from institutional care homes in the United Kingdom were shipped to Canada for better lives.

Despite Mastodon being a far more peaceful platform that is not flooded with bots like #X (as far as I have seen on Mindly social& on other instances), it seems strange when and why a follower unfollows and it cannot be even known who it was. Although people are free to follow or unfollow, sometimes the reason becomes important why someone followed and then unfollowed. Anyway, the posts of whatever I share are global and not restricted to followers only.

Honestly, if I changed that to “macroeconomics” I think I could remove the CW

This yellow tree is my favorite #autumn tree that I can see from my house. It's probably about a quarter mile away as the crow flies. To the left of it is an apple orchard. The yellow trees in the orchard are a different variety than the main trees, which is why they are changing color earlier. (They are pollinators; I can explain if you need me to.) The tall trees to the left usually turn a nice yellow, too, but they're not looking very good this year. They might be dying.
It’s the first time in modern #Texas history that there will be a Democrat in every state & federal race. In West Texas that means strengthening the party’s infrastructure & taking on politicians who have sunk comfortably into the highest seats of power. https://www.texasobserver.org/west-texas-dems-candidates-deep-red-2026/

Here's a cheeky afocal shot of the #Moon through that scope. One shot. No processing. Right side a bit blurry probably due to the phone camera not being well aligned to the optical axis of the eyepiece (15mm plossl).
Not a bad image, all things considered.
Yes I do regret saying out loud to the vet that my newly adopted dog was hopefully going to be very healthy. We made it 6 months 😅

What I really dislike about AI coding is that, it's not about your creativity and knowledge, an oss text editor and an oss compiler, but your subscriptions to vendors or your hardware.
Basically you need money to learn and show in interviews and not only free time. I know free time is also a bit of money but I think it's a fraction of it.
What do you think?
There's a special kind of co-worker that doesn't "believe in pronouns" but refers to Claude "he/him" in conference calls.
