This entire time, all night and morning long, I was thinking that #mindlysocial was down. Nope. Went onto my search engine and looked for some answers. As it turns out, this might happen... There might be an IP block from the server's security.

Basically, it was possible my home network's public IP address was recently bundled into a neighborhood block by mistake. If the server suffered a bot attack (which it most likely did), its security systems might have blocked a range of IP addresses that unfortunately includes mine.

So, long story short, I apparently have to use my Surfshark VPN every single time I log onto my server from my phone and web. Damn. Damn, damn, damn. While I do use my VPN on my computer (90% of the time, not 100%), I didn't have it on my phone until now. I'm adding the app as we speak. I hate bots so much. And here I thought the server was just down for maintenance this entire time.

So, is the mindly.social Mastodon instance finally stable again? It's been either completely unavailable or barely working for nearly a month now. Seriously considering transferring to one that, you know, works.

@kzeta i’ve had really good luck with mindly.social (started there, still there) … i don’t know the in depth ins-and-outs of what goes on in the background but i feel like i rarely, if ever, run into the major problems that i hear others encountering #mindlySocial

Why is #Mindlysocial again to 500 character limits? What happened? People are probably partying #newyear, during which Mindly social again reduced the character limits. Anyway, enjoy holidays.

We boosted the image from someone who posted it the earlier, already. We didn't pick up on that. We were just thankful to se the Arabic translation alongside each.

We may be preaching to bots or data mining firms anyway. Few people with any real sense would use a Cloud(G)lare instance for anything genuine. Last we checked #mastodonScot, #mindlySocial and #mstdnCa are all Cf'd instances. 😉

KuJoe, who's the main person operating the server I'm on, has issued the following statement about Threads. Sorta interesting, I guess.

Couldn't use our own domain website emails, had to change email address to Gmail ones. That worked.
Trying to join @mindly.social and am having trouble receiving the email confirmation. Anyone else had any trouble? It's been over an hour and I requested a resend. Still nothing. #mindlysocial

@KuJoe Thanks again. Logged in from Chrome & MacOS latest updates your solution works. On the other hand, on Chrome & ipadOS (latest) logged out, as simple click to @root #MindlySocial images remain blurred ...while posts from other users in other 'masto-servers' show OK. Screenshots attached, 1 mindly pain page, 2 mindly my page, 3 other server. Questioning if I should keep my Mastodon profile url inserted in my auto-signature ...was hoping to promote Mastodon as well.

I've already gotten so ingrained in the #mastodon habit of liberally passing out favorites and boosts that I started behaving differently on other SM as well, upvoting just about everything on reddit and then suddenly remembering I can't boost it. It's much nicer here.

I have been seeing more and more Twitter folks on this site faster than (fill in blank 🤣 ). I must say I tried to be active on that site, but it seems you had to be a celebrity, politician, or someone with millions of followers or just say outrageous and offensive things to get noticed and that was not for me. It is really hard for someone like me/us with little or no followers to have a decent chat but not here!

I know that politics, religion, and current events are usually everybody's favorite discussions these days, but for this server let's try to focus on the positive things out there and use Content Warnings and hashtags when applicable to make it easy for people to filter out the stuff they're trying to get away from.

I don't mind people talking about divisive or heavy topics, but for the really negative stuff let's give people the option to not see it here.
