  1. @Pavel Machek has rebased his #libcamera AutoFocus experimental branch above mainline v0.7.0 tag during @okias organized 6th #MobileLinux Hackday yesterday (thanks to #SUSE for hosting), and I have built it on my #oneplus6 #Qualcomm #sdm845 phone running my build of 6.19.0-rc4-next-20260106-sdm845-gdc7b19cffd9e kernel and #mobian. Then I have tested it with Pavel’s mcam and, probably the first time ever, with Gnome/Phosh snapshot application with a complete pipewire-libcamera stack. The simple SW AF prototype has been enabled by the addition of - Af: line into /usr/share/libcamera/ipa/simple/uncalibrated.yam. On the occasion, I had the chance to test the result to document an actual event: when the president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, spoke at the #Ukraine Support meeting in #Prague Old Town Square today. The autofocus algorithm is quite unstable, periodically seeking a sharp image while the view is blurred in between. Same for the uncalibrated colors. But that could/should be solved in the longer perspective, see FOSDEM talk1 and talk2. But in general, the day when we can run at least older devices under real user control is yet closer. It depends now on @EUCommission whether the future is like 1984 or not for new devices. If it insists on Chat Control, which requires eliminating user control over what software runs on the device and supports rhetoric of sideloading for user control and even own builds of application installing, then the governments and corporations controlled botnet would be abused by mighty ones to control society as a whole. Back to today’s photos and the demonstration of goodwill to help the attacked neighborhood country to survive the imperial war. The original 1080p resolution photo with far focus is there and the short distance shot to the paper there. Both were taken by an IMX519 camera connected to MIPI C-phy.

  15. It looks like iocage has been abandoned and I've found Bastille to have some advantages over it.

I tried to look up a way to migrate my jails to Bastille but so far everything includes exporting them from one system to another. Anyone know if I can do this on one system?

It seems that I should, given that both programs just manage the jails, but iocage uses a json file instead of the normal jail config and I'm not exactly sure what it's doing.

  16. Luksus w cenie… rozsądku? Motorola signature wchodzi do Polski. Znamy cenę i datę premiery

Motorola przestaje bawić się w półśrodki. Producent oficjalnie wprowadza do Polski zupełnie nową linię „signature”.

    4 razy 50 Mpx i Sony LYTIA

    • Główny: 50 Mpx z matrycą Sony LYTIA i optyczną stabilizacją (OIS).
    • Ultraszeroki: 50 Mpx z funkcją Macro Vision.
    • Teleobiektyw: 50 Mpx (peryskopowy, 3x zoom optyczny, 100x zoom cyfrowy).

    Design i 7 lat spokoju

  17. As usual, the autofocus of my camera failed to focus on the cat, and focussed on the background instead. This is a common issue with all #Fujifilm #XSystem cameras, resulting from the fact that they have face/eye detection only for humans but not for animal faces (which some other manufacturers' cameras do).

  19. Hey #Filmphotography bubble, I need help with an autofocus issue on my #NikonF5. I recently got a Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 USD G1. On the F5 the autofocus does not work (moves slowly but then fails). However it does work perfectly on the F100 and also on my DSLR.
All my other lenses (AF-D and AF-S types) do work on the F5 though.

    I already:
    - changed batteries
    - cleaned battery contacts
    - cleaned lens mount contacts

I am happy for any suggestions or tips.

  20. TIP: If you ever start scanning in old #family #photos and capturing #videos, keep them all in ONE folder, do not copy them and start processing them separately, you may start working again on the wrong folder and you may end up with several inconsistent folders to process.

Also do a naming convention, like
<year>.<who is on photo>.<place>.<other tags>.<other tags> (etc).jpg, because if you do it that way, you can quickly search images and videos using a file manager without having to go through them.

The more effort you put in now, the less you need to do in the future.

If you need to capture old #movies, like #Hi8/#Super8, then pulling down the curtains and projecting the movie into a closet with a white back is sufficient.

IMPORTANT: just make sure to aim the camera as straight as you can into it and disable autofocus by setting a specific focus, or else videos can be blurry once you start recording a new video.

There is specific hardware to do these things well, but the only hardware i bought was a scanner for #slides/#negatives. There was a company who said that they could do it but the price quote i got (€1500) was a bit too much.

So instead, I spend €200 on supplementing my camera with gear + bought the #negative scanner and got a whole #photo lab for that price, I already had a regular photo scanner so didn't need that (they are usually cheap anyway).

  21. dear #kate #texlatex users/enjoyers:

Is there a way to get this "navigating between pdf and editor feature" behaviour that exists for overleaf and vscode?

(feature 1: clicking on a line in the pdf, ending up at the corresponding line in the editor. feature 2: focusing something in the editor, autofocus the same part in the pdf)
