  1. "Smart glasses have faced public backlash before.

"More than a decade ago, early adopters of Google Glass encountered criticism if they used the $1,500 pair of smart glasses in socially unacceptable ways, such as secretly recording people and staring off into space while they browsed websites. Their nickname: Glassholes."

  3. What a weird day so far. Went to Charles street dole office to show up that I am still alive; 10 minutes, out I went.
By the bike rack there's a Chinese bloke refitting the dropped chain on his bike I asked if he needed help. he said no, OK.

As I am about to go, he comes over and speaks to me in Chinese, I do not understand a word. So he spoke into his phone which then translated. really weird language, he spoke on the phone which then came up with a series of Chinese writing and spoke in English. Amazing.

Spent about an hour having a chat with this bloke, in his fifties, from Shangai, said his son was a student here, he was here on holiday as his country his much too hot in Summer. Weird that.

Anyway it all went almost well, he asked if this was a school, no it isn't but it is student accommodation, then said this city is not much to write home about, I agreed.

Asked if there were flea markets nearby I said no, not near, and gave him direction to Sully, where there is a market on sundays unless it's raining.

And that was that, goodbye, have a nice day - in Chinese sounds really weird and beautiful, Off I went on my bike, at a certain point realized I did not have my spectacles on. ACH! I said to myself, where are they? not hanging by the neck chain I wear, not in the pockets, not on the bike bags. I went back and forth twice on the road to find them, not a sign, not a shadow, no specs smashed under car's wheels,
    u nothing.
    not a shade.

Went back in the office, asked the security, then to the desk, none. Nothing. Weird.

Back out again, walked up the road gain, again nothing, not a piece, nothing. At this point though is it possible I forgot them in the flat? So returned to the flat, searched the usual area and other parts, nothing, no specs. Gone. Vanished. Completely. WTF?

Really strange to lose one's specs; doesn't make much difference nowadays, still...

  10. Zaporowa cena i prawdziwa rozszerzona rzeczywistość. Okulary Snap Spectacles wyprzedzą Android XR

Firma Snap, właściciel popularnego komunikatora Snapchat, przygotowuje się do jesiennej premiery nowej generacji swoich okularów rozszerzonej rzeczywistości z serii Spectacles.

Według najnowszych przecieków branżowych, urządzenie ma zadebiutować z niezwykle wysoką ceną sięgającą 2500 dolarów. Choć kwota ta pozycjonuje sprzęt w kategorii niszowych produktów premium, ruch ten ma kluczowe znaczenie strategiczne. Wypuszczając produkt w tym roku, Snap zamierza wyprzedzić rynkową ofensywę konkurencyjnej platformy Android XR, nad którą pracują między innymi Google i Samsung.

    Prawdziwe AR kontra wyświetlacze przezierne

Astronomiczna cena okularów wynika z fundamentalnej różnicy w inżynieryjnym podejściu do technologii.

Nowe Spectacles mają umożliwić precyzyjne osadzanie i śledzenie wirtualnych obiektów trójwymiarowych w fizycznej przestrzeni użytkownika. Osiągnięcie tego efektu wymaga zastosowania zaawansowanych systemów mapowania otoczenia i znacznie wydajniejszych, zminiaturyzowanych podzespołów obliczeniowych.

    Walka o harmonogram

Oficjalne szczegóły architektoniczne nowych okularów prawdopodobnie zostaną ujawnione w czerwcu, podczas zaplanowanego wystąpienia przedstawicieli firmy na targach Augmented World Expo.

  13. Went to pick up the spectacles, as by PLAN A; all went well, showed the bloke my repaired specs, got two pairs of specs one for long distance and one for reading only. Both feels weird and not quite right, as I was also given two boxes, they'll stay there until further notice.

On the way back, through the alleys, didn't find anything interesting (*) but at a certain point a bloke was trying to take a snapshot of a brick sampler against a brick wall and asked me to hold it up while he took a shot. Weird.

Then through the park where I stopped to feed the crows, had a bag of dry worms in the bag, as soon as I stopped a couple of dozen of them landed nearby, waiting.

And so it went; closer to base spotted four council vans picking up rubbish, apparently the illegal dumpsters were very active last night and there were piles of rubbish dumped in alleys. Wood, plaster board, rubble. Bandits.

Also forgot to take the lighter so didn't smoke for two and a half hours!! and the trip took the same time as two Zappa albums, Apostrophe and Bongo Fury, which was nice.

Back to base, break, off shortly to the plot to do another brush cutting session at the community allotment which has been taken over by the Komissariat (commitee) which is doing an excellent job.

  17. Hearts2Hearts -- Juun

In 1926, Dorothy Parker published "News Item", her two line poem claiming that spectacles make a woman unattractive.

    "Men seldom make passes
    At girls who wear glasses."

A century later, Juun is one of many Kpop idols who might persuade us to think otherwise.

  19. The Wise Man on the Right

I’ve been going through old black & white photographs and asking an AI model to colourise them for me, and it’s doing a pretty decent job of this. This photo jogged a few memories and prompted a realisation. Read on to find out more.

I don’t remember much about the day that photograph was taken, just the soft weight of the costume, the scratch of the fabric at my neck, and the sense that something important was happening even if I didn’t quite understand what. I must have been six or seven. We crossed the road from Birstall County Primary school to the chapel in our costumes, a little procession of shepherds, angels, and wise men wobbling along the pavement like mismatched ducklings.

In the picture, I’m the one on the far right: glasses too big, robes hanging awkwardly, trying to look solemn and grown-up. I can see now that I was nervous, though I wouldn’t have had the words for it then. Back then, I just felt “different,” without knowing why.

If I could speak to that kid now, that tiny wise man with the oversized glasses, I’d tell him the truth no one around him knew how to give him. I’d tell him he’s autistic, and that this is why the world feels louder, sharper, and more complicated for him than it seems to be for the other children. I’d tell him he isn’t broken or strange; he’s simply wired in a way that will one day make sense.

I’d warn him, too, because honesty matters. The bullying will come, and it will hurt, and it will get worse in high school before it gets better. But I’d also tell him that he survives it. Not by becoming someone else but by slowly, stubbornly, becoming himself.

And maybe that’s why colourising this photo feels so powerful. It’s like offering that child a kindness he never received at the time: a moment of being seen clearly, gently, and with understanding.

Sometimes the smallest memories are the ones that finally teach us who we’ve been all along.
