  4. Instead of trying to fix (honestly impressive) fuckup, I decided to just reinstall #Arch and #DankLinux. It was a lot easier than the other options, and I wanted to do some different stuff this time anyway.

For instance, I did a minimal install (no desktop) with just a few tools by default, and then curled the dank installer. Wow does that thing work well, provided you manually install #QuickShell first (at least for me, it kept trying to install both the regular QuickShell and the hit version from the AUR.)

I also set up my favorite file manager (#Nemo), installed #Waterfox and #Helium, and did some other fun stuff.

Now I'm gonna see if I can get Dank working on MangoWM et all. Don't get me wrong, #Niri is gorgeous and easy to use. I'm just havin' fun.

  5. On my Linux laptop, I've been happily using #niri and #DankMaterialShell.

Today I made my first plugin for DMS that lets you set an always visible reminder/countdown:

  6. So… does anyone know if #Niri+Dank works on #FreeBSD? Not saying it's a dealbreaker, just that I kinda wanna run FreeBSD for a minute, and I really like #DankLinux

Noctalia? Was'das denn nun schon wieder?

  9. @Houl lol, I would actually appreciate a limit on my scrolling tiler before my scrolling debt becomes unmanageable.

Like, please cut off me off if my windows would exceed 2x my output width— I have a scrolling problem.

  10. I'm having trouble finding fault with #Niri + #DankLinux. Basically it's beautiful, functional, lightweight, and just really nice. Overview is fantastic, the bar is easy to arrange with lots of widgets and stuff, and the program launcher and Dock are fantastic. Four paws up from the Owlbear. Niri's .kdl files are kinda annoying to edit compared to, say, a toml yaml or INI file. Other than that, full marks.

I finally have something other than #Gnome I'm comfortable working in, which is kinda weirding me out.

Obviously it's time to completely blow up my new comfortable workspace and try something else. Can't get all complacent, I might get actual writing done.

  12. About a month ago I switched away from using my own dotfiles for #niri in lieu of #dankmaterialshell. It might stem from me wanting to just use my machine instead of having to maintain my machine, but it’s been a very nice experience. The devs are working hard adding a ton of features to make a nice desktop environment, and there’s already a pretty in depth plugin ecosystem for adding more specific features. I’ve been enjoying it!

  13. Say masto, I want to install some #niri-like software on #macOS .

So, I search the web and find #hyprspace github.com/patroza/HyprSpace which tells me to run `brew install --cask barutsrb/tap/hyprspace` which fails as there is no `hyprspace` cask.

I find it weird that the command uses `barutsrb` so I edit the URI and discover github.com/BarutSRB/OmniWM and #omnyWM .

At this point, I'm lost and don't know what to pick from where.
Please, enlighten me if you can.

  14. @fabi1cazenave merci pour la découverte de #niri.
Ça va enfin me permettre de passer outre mon ultime problème sur le #ferris lié à des #i3-like.

  15. Hello voices from the void,
    I guess it's time for an #introduction

I'm Chris, a hobby sailor cosplaying as a #informatik #student (#DualesStudium ) . I'm from Hesse in Germany and love #cooking #recipes from all over the world. My latest food studies are focused on the #persian and #lao cuisine If you have fun recipes to try, please do share them!

It'll take me a while until I get the hang of this all, please let me know and do tell me where I can improve. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the fediverse.

    #Arch & #niri btw

    Happy to be here!

  16. So the Owlbear has mentioned before that animations can be an accessibility issue. I personally find them to be very useful. They don't have to be much, or fancy, just present.

That said, I like them to be at least a little appealing. And the default #Niri stuff on #PikaOS fits the bill. I have taken to this tiling WM in a way that I haven't with others. The Expose feature combined with a simple scrolling workspace is familiar, easy to use, and powerful.

That said, I'm probably not staying here.

I just prefer a (very) slightly modified #Gnome workflow. The tiling features built into Gnome are enough for Owlbear s, and even if they weren't, the tiling Gnome Extensions fit the bill.

So imma prolly play with Niri for a few more days and then switch to… I dunno. It might be time to settle down for a minute. Something comfortable? #Arch, #Debian, #OpenSuse - one of the core operating systems maybe?

And probably Gnome. It's where I go to get stuff done.

  17. So yesterday was my first foray into using #Niri and it's super pretty, friends. The windows organize themselves coherently by default, the keyboard commands are fairly intuitive and once I wrapped my head around the basics, the Owlbear could even guess a few (I'm working with the #PikaOS defaults here).

I'm running into a issue with it rendering Steam, in that it's just a black window and none of the contents are visisble. This isn't my gaming PC so that's not a HUGE issue. I mostly play stuff from #itchio or #OpenSourceGames on my laptop if I play games at all. So I can sort it out, like, when I get around to it.

Anyway, first impressions are overall positive! I'll report further when I have other stuff to say 😃

  18. On a completely unrelated note, I think imma try this #Niri #WindowManager I keep hearing about. Gonna throw the Niri version of #PikaOS on my laptop and dive straight into deep end.

Oh, have I told y'all that The Owlbear is running PikaOS on their gaming computer? And is rather liking it? I know, the Owlbear running #Debian based #Linux. I'm as surprised as anyone.

(FTR before anyone jumps on me, I have absolutely nothing against Debian, and in fact recognize it as possibility the most important of the major distributions; any and all shots I make at Debian are jokes.)

  19. Chat what should I bind the #CopilotKey aka `XF86Assistant` aka `Super+Shift+F23` aka `Super+Shift+XF86TouchpadOff` (lol) to?
Maybe something ridiculous? Or another Super key? Hyper? `espeak-ng -v Swedish "Blåhaj"`?
Make it fun, make it useful, your choice.
