After like two and a half years, I'm still not sure how #DMs work on Mastodon. I know you just lead off with the @ of the person you're addressing, but can other people see them? If so, aren't they really not DMs? Somebody educate my dumb ass, please!

How can a desktop environment like GNOME be so popular when, honestly, nobody would use it without extensions? Every day there are new extensions for window management, making the desktop look nicer... The problem is that extensions sometimes mess with each other (for keyboard shortcuts for example) and break after every GNOME update. Thank goodness Niri and DMS exist if you want a lightweight and actually functional desktop.
Really hope that Fedora 45 will come with an official Niri and DMS spin. -

Jetzt arbeite ich seit etwas über einem Tag mit Niri und Dank Material Shell und ich bin begeistert! Ich habe schon immer die Maus nur notwendigerweise benutzt und eher mit der Tastatur gearbeitet. Mit Niri und DMS ist das richtig gut! Endlich ein Tiling Manager der es wirklich auch richtig macht, intuitiv ist und dabei auch noch echt gut aussieht! Und vor allem auch mit meinem 3-Monitor Setup keinerlei Probleme hat!

Niri und Dank Material Shell, kurz DMS, sind eine tolle Kombination. Bei mir läuft der scrollende Tiling Wayland Compositor mit der hübschen Desktop-Shell schon seit einiger Zeit – und darf definitiv bleiben.

You know, I just realized something: some people sound •flat•. When I read their texts or DMs, they just feel •lifeless• to me.
Others sound unique (in my head when I read what they've written), but there are some people whose voice just doesn't come through to me.
When I was a kid, my father told me to write the way I think; if I did that (he said), I'd never find myself short for words. I took his advice to heart, as I usually did, and it has served me really well for more than half a century.
When friends read my writing, they always comment that they hear it •in my voice•. Now, they know me, so that's not really proving anything. But I've noticed that when I read what YOU write (in a general sense; I mean everyone on here) I mostly hear you as some sort of voice in my head. It's just that some of you—a definite minority—have no •character• somehow. It's like the voice goes away and it's just words on a screen.
I've noticed that's often the case with scammers and trolls. There's a curious sort of lifelessness to them. You know, I suspect that the same is probably true of AI! Although I haven't tested that theory yet.
Sorry, I guess I'm rambling. But has anyone else had that sort of experience online?
