  1. What is work?

I just read an article on Callaci’s book, ‘Wages for Housework’.

It is a great article (link at the end of the thread), but…

At one point she describes how, for a time, her son needed her to sit with him with one hand on his stomach for him to go to sleep. She later wondered, “Was that work?” And decided it felt wrong to call it such.

  4. A technical question:

I'm making a quiz using Google Forms. It needs to have the capacity to "add up" the answers & give a result to the respondent.

I'd like to give a different value to each answer, e.g. 3 answer options having values of 100%, 50%, and 0%.

But google forms only allows 2 answers, one "right" and one "wrong".

Does anyone know either a way around this, or a different tool to make quizzes?

Thanks for any advice & for reposts 😊

  5. To explain:

I'm exploring the relationship between sins/wrongdoing (morality), and actual harm caused.

As I think the two seem not always to be related.

To my #autistic brain, I think they should be entirely related.

(I suspect another factor that's been brought into the mix, sideways, is how much they threaten the status quo. Which is NOT the same thing as causing harm).

  6. How's your relationship? Are you on the Drama Triangle?

Understanding this theory has really helped me navigate my relationships with people.

    A thread 🧵

On the triangle there are three positions:

    Victim
    Rescuer
    Persecutor

  8. I'm looking for books about power dynamics and social hierarchies.

    Book recommendations very welcome!

    And reposts 💖😊

Everything from the macro to the micro.
    And, I love data.

Some of the books I've read already:

"The case against competition", Alfie Kohn

    "Algorithms of oppression", Safiya Noble.

    "Ain't I a woman", bell hooks.

  9. Here’s how to do it:

    1. Build a box. Make it secure.

    2. Paint the inside of it in nice landscape colors.

    3. Grow the people in that box so, with any luck, they’ll never know they’re in one.

    4. Once they’re grown, you can assign those people very specific tasks – all of which serve the hierarchy that actually exists outside the box.

  10. 4. Quizzing your parents about whether there are ‘problems in the family’ or ‘problems at home’, when you or they have expressed that there are problems at school.

    5. Pressurizing you to do things you feel you cannot, such as achieving a higher level of attendance. Sometimes this pressure can even amount to telling you that your family will be subject to fines and sanctions if you don’t attend.
