  1. I'm not convinced this method brings numbers (audience growth, views, etc). I find it hard to believe that totally AI automed processes for media production are good to build brands with know/like/trust factor. I also don't believe this method is good for anything other than building simple proofs of concept, initial concepts or assisting processes (say, spell checks, layouting, research, etc).

  2. I have thoughts about AI in media production

Not gonna lie, AI tools have crept into many of my workflows. I experiment with it all for sure.

what's weird to me is creators and marketers talking about their use of AI automation to edit videos in apparently 5 minutes, for instance. I look at many of the results and they're trash. the message I get as a viewer is: this trash is good enough for me and I'll feed this trash to my audience. it makes me question their own standard of quality.

  3. I scream. You scream. We all scream when we see the ice cream man.

You know he's trouble because he's a cannibal, though his agony is gorgeous

  4. I can’t remember how to search for my friends

  5. I've spent the past few days investigating a serious security incident at a client.

When several systems are affected, it's easy to make assumptions about where an attack started. But as I've just experienced, it can take hours of log and file analysis to get a reliable picture.

Blaming each other before knowing the facts doesn't help anyone.

Whether we work with #TYPO3, #WordPress or something else, let's share what we learn and help each other. 🤝

  6. I learned .NET performance by sending PRs to the Azure SDK. The rejected ones taught me the most, because a maintainer would ask: is this complexity worth it?

New series on what I picked up, starting with when to bother at all.

  8. I took part in this collective anthology project called Codex Paradoxum, a book in which various artists picked a number of characters or masks from folk traditions around the world and created a new version of it, reinterpreting them both narratively and visually.

I worked on three figures, creating imaginary horror movies out of them. This was the first one, based on the "Bertha, Bechta or Perchta". (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perchta)

  9. I believe it will be quite a big win for Linux-libre users ( #Guix, #Trisquel, #HyperbolaLinux and #ParabolaLinux ) if Linux-libre project will also remove #slop commits from code. Yes, that may take quite a lot of work from maintainers since the mainline #Linux stopped requiring the «Assisted By» tag, but just imagine how many people who are disgusted by #ai / #llm in their software will switch to #LinuxLibre... #FreeSoftware #FOSS #FLOSS

  15. I was delighted to see the Toronto election results have returned progressive mayor Olivia Chow to office, with a largely progressive city council. The race between Chow and Bradford, which the media was describing as neck & neck, turned out to be not even close. Bradford even lost to Chow in his own ward.

I was worried because an unknown who also had the last name “Chow” was running in this election. As I predicted, his vote share is way out of proportion to the other unknown candidates. (By “unknown”, I mean candidates that the media pretends don’t exist). Unknown candidates generally each got under 1000 votes, with a few up over 3000. Brendan Chow got 8102 votes, of which I’m presuming the vast majority were intended for Olivia Chow.

I’m looking forward to seeing what this city council can do. I just hope the same voters turn out for the next Provincial election.

  16. I had a friend who lived a few doors down and went through the most horrendous divorce with a vicious ex and a baby daughter in the mix. I’d known him for years, went to uni with him and went to gigs and things together for years. He could be a bit odd with people, but he was ok with me. To help him with legal fees, we lent him some money. Never saw it again. He never mentioned it and became deeply resentful of me for some reason. I kept coming back to him, for some reason, before finally seeing sense and backing off to protect myself and my mental health. This went on for literally 20 years before he moved up to Yorkshire. No sign of that money, but it’s a massive weight off my mind that he’s not squatting a few doors down the road any more.

Anyway. When someone shows you who they really are, believe them.

  17. I’ve just updated my iPhone mini and iPad from iOS 18 to 27. The transparency is largely mitigated but the bouncy animations are still a problem. They make the UI feel slow, the constant shape changing makes it harder to follow the controls and movement happening all over the screen is distracting and confusing. Turning on reduce motion doesn’t hit the spot for me. The problem for me isn’t motion, it’s motion that is dislocated from interaction.

  18. I swear I'm not making this up. So now I have to use the FOSS KOReader software which, turns out, is garbage. So I'm probably going to undo all this.

    2+ hours wasted. AI FTW.

(Not AI's fault, to be clear. Mine. But my point stands: normal people are not suddenly going to become software developers.)

"Dopo anni di polemiche, la truffa delle targhe polacche sembra avere i giorni contati.

Ma chi vuole aggirare il pagamento di bollo, multe e assicurazione ha già trovato nuove alternative: le targhe slovacche e ceche.

Un'inchiesta per scoprire come si è evoluto questo sistema e chi si nasconde dietro le società di noleggio estere."

  20. I found out second-hand that the platform my old R&D team had been building was scrapped. The tooling meant to carry a hundred-odd engineers off a PHP monolith and onto Go services, gone. They kept the monolith.

It stung, and I'd love to say all of the sting was aimed at whoever made the call. The longer I chewed on it, the more it pointed back at me.

That team's work was scaffolding. It's in every progress photo of a building site and nobody looks at it once. It costs money every week it stays up, it isn't what anybody ordered, and it's the obvious thing to take down when the budget gets tight.

Their value only ever showed up in someone else's numbers. Turning "this will make the whole department faster" into a number the business already cared about was my job as chief architect, and I didn't do it. "It'll be obvious later" is more of a hope than a case.

Given my time again, I'd run a second stream: pick a few systems that are really hurting, measure them, rebuild them on the unfinished platform, measure again. One finished room you can walk a stakeholder into.

  23. I'm using Claude to build a custom wireless sync solution for my Kobo reader. Cool, yeah. And possible because I'm basically already a software developer. But if anyone thinks 'normal people' are going to start building their own apps or whatever, let me tell you: you are dreaming. No chance anyone else is going to sit through two hours of this. None.

  24. I think API is the last heavy lift to build. And then a small list of enhancements/changes. Not even sure how I want to do the API yet
