The real thanks goes to Mama Stanley and the women and men in Edmonton who are calling the Oilers out.

The cancer of misogyny at the heart of boy’s and men’s hockey in Canada should be deeply upsetting to us, as fans. Unfortunately, it’s still “boys will be boys.”

ps. I’ve tried reading Cowan’s “Skating on Thin Ice” twice. I stopped because I was sickened by what was saying about men’s hockey. I think it’s time to pick it up again and finish it. This is a men’s health issue. And Oilers just showed the cancer is still alive &well.

Sucks that this is going to be a lost season where neither progress towards playoffs or retooling will be made, but whatever. Gonna be an interesting season for all the wrong reasons.

We had quarter-season tickets to the Oilers last year.

We initially decided not to renew because of the new cost (despite being a team that didn't make it past the first round of playoffs) and the signing of Stan Bowman and Mike Babcock.

Although we are past the deadline to keep the seats we had last year, Alex Formenton has confirmed that we won't do it again, and we won't pay our TV provider for Sportsnet access this year.

I don't really have much of a relationship with #BarryMelrose. 

I'll say this. When I was breaking into this new and exciting world of #Hockey I had absolutely nowhere to go for information or discussion. 

TSN, Sportsnet? What's a Puck Daddy? As someone not immersed in that area of the internet/sports I had no idea. 

Melrose was a staple on ESPN and he'd host a weekly Hockey podcast. It was an absolute lifeline for me whilst I figured out how to follow this sport from the UK. 

Insightful, funny, entertaining. It was absolutely essential to me as a new fan, and I'm not sure if I'd still be Hockey mad nearly 20 years later, if it wasn't for Melrose and that podcast.

So, here's to Barry Melrose. RIP to a great one.
