🏒🥅🇨🇦🏆 What I’ve been saying for some time. McDrai should compete for Selke. Then, Cups will come.
“In almost 50 years, no Edmonton Oiler has won the Selke Trophy as the NHL’s best defensive forward. Maybe the individual award that matters most this year is the one the team has never won. Maybe, then, the Oilers will win this year’s Stanley Cup.”

@64bithero 🏒🥅🇨🇦 I can’t speak to what kind of Capt Matthews is, or how represents himself or the team. McD, in my view, is quite humble. He does see a bigger picture. I just think he should keep some things private -his opinions on the coach, on the team, etc- and between affected parties. He usually says nothing of value in his media avails. That he let some things slip this past season speaks to his frustration. That’s understandable. But saying it publicly is immature. It’s not “Capt behaviour,” IMO. Neither is his loose defensive play, especially when he’s the best player on a team that needs his example of 200-ft play.

@ryan2one3 @[email protected] I think the important part of this story is how it gives cover to McDrai’s leadership fail last season.
There are many reasons why the Oilers stumbled last year. As I watch the Blue Jays stumble through their post World Series loss (and learn about how losing a championship round, generally, means poor next-seasons), I don’t think enough credit is given to how hard it is to come back. Someone has to be blamed, it seems.
The one factor that doesn’t get much play is how team leadership responded to two SCF defeats. McD said he wanted to score more. He did. Won the Art Ross. Again. But his 200-ft game sucked. Drai told us he wanted to win Selke. But by late Oct that desire was clearly gone. No 200-ft game from him either. Goalies and coach were blamed.
Asking for Babcock to discipline them is cover for their poor play last season. They knew how to. Hence two deep runs. They just didn’t.🏒🥅 #letsgoOilers #Oilers #nhl #hockey #hnom #yeg #edmonton @hnom

@CityHoosier Just because I’m good at sports does not mean I’m good at thinking.

🏒🥅🇨🇦 McDrai are “searing talents” when it comes to on-ice behaviour. They are not, however, talents as off-ice leaders.
That’s not their fault. It’s the fault of an organization that decides to give a kid a man’s job, then doesn’t give him training or support to grow into the job. This is costing the Oilers.
Leadership is more than heroics. It’s certainly more than blaming coach and team for a failure to play the way they know they must play to win. McDrai did this. They’ve now put this on a new coach: hold us accountable.
The team is good, maybe better than the last two seasons. Will the new coach bench the fans’ heroes, esp the owner’s golden goose? Will McDrai do for this coach, consistently, what they wouldn’t for the last coach? We shall see.#letsgoOilers #Oilers #nhl #stanleycup #hockey #hnom #yeg #edmonton #leadership @hnom

🏒🥅 🇨🇦 “The suspensions bar the 4 players from a wide range of activities …, incl. coaching, volunteering… representing the country at int’l tournaments, ie. world championships, Olympics and Spengler Cup...”
Bravo to Hockey Canada. Criminality was, narrowly, overruled. But character and leadership was certainly found wanting. Let’s expect more from our boys & men. Our daughters deserve better.

🏒🥅🇨🇦Hockey fans in Canada, your thoughts?
Sportsnet is increasing fees, and reducing access by selling Weds nights (and some playoff series’) to Amazon. First they get rid of public, free access to HNIC on CBC TV, eliminate their sports radio in Vancouver and Calgary. Now this.
