My respect for team’s leadership diminished as I watched McDrai stop listening to coach, stop playing 200-ft hockey, and w they blamed goalies and coaches for poor season. Add the McD “hire” of a reputed bully as new coach, the signing of a sexual predator, and Drai lauding the bully-coach as a “man.”
WTF is this telling the boys and girls who love hockey?I returned to hockey fandom after 40+ years
because it was exciting to watch McDrai.In the coming days I’ll do a ritual purging of Oilers jerseys etc. I’m sad about this. But, I can’t support this team anymore.
I feel for the people of Oilerville who’ve been let down by these leadership fails. But I’m moving on. This season, and henceforth, I’ll be rooting for the Habs. They appear to be building something with good team culture. Habs Cup before an Oilers Cup? We shall see.

Sucks that this is going to be a lost season where neither progress towards playoffs or retooling will be made, but whatever. Gonna be an interesting season for all the wrong reasons.

We had quarter-season tickets to the Oilers last year.
We initially decided not to renew because of the new cost (despite being a team that didn't make it past the first round of playoffs) and the signing of Stan Bowman and Mike Babcock.
Although we are past the deadline to keep the seats we had last year, Alex Formenton has confirmed that we won't do it again, and we won't pay our TV provider for Sportsnet access this year.

Goalies were not “the problem.” But all five paid for it in 2025-26. Glad to see Skinner back in Canada. I wish him well with the Jets. Q is an outlier. NHL average is about three years, last time I looked. Oilers, 2+.
I don’t know how this rate of churn helps build organizational stability. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t.
I do think Q’s time in Chicago speaks to the value, from a Cup-winning perspective, of letting coach and team go through the inevitable ups and downs without threat of firing.
But that requires organizational (and, especially, owner) patience. And especially in hockey-mad/obsessive/fanatic markets.
I imagine the tenure of coach Mike Babcock will be short, here in Oilerville. Regardless of any Cup success. More churn.

Montreal. They are the other template. They have an emerging and large elite corps signed for win-friendly contracts for 5-8 years.
Let’s see how the two models (get rich v get Cup) play out over the next five years.
McD isn’t here in Oilerville for the money. As long as there’s a good chance to win the Cup, I believe he’s with Drai and Bouch. Everyone keeps asking about Quinn’s commitment to Minnesota. Everyone keeps pointing Jack and casting doubts. Who says Jack wants to stay in Jersey ? Personally if I were a Devils fan I’d be concerned. Who ever has cap and has a real shot at a championship most likely lands both. And I’m not sure it’s any team I’ve discussed.
