🏒🥅🇨🇦 I didn’t watch the Jets v Bruins game tonight, but see it was close. An OT loss :(
However, I see that my guy Stuuuu Skinner was second star, Swayman third star. Nice to hear the Jets fan gave him lots of love (I’m pretty sure fan support helps goalies develop confidence, their secret sauce). It’s just one game, but nice to see these numbers: .923 SV%, 1 GSAx (5v5) -

@buffaloseven Goaltending HAS NOT been the issue for the Oilers. The inability or unwillingness of its leadership to play 200-ft remains the issue. That’s why McDrai hired a noted abusive coach: to “accountability” their bad habits out of them. Game 1 of this season showed the coach just how hard that job will be.

@jimlil I disagree. I don’t know how “real” it is. But I believe a number like Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) is probably more useful in evaluating goalies than SV%, and definitely better than GAA. These are team defensive stats as much as (or more than) individual goalie stats.
My other favourite “goalie stat” is WIN%, which is definitely a team stat, but I think it’s a reflection of who’s in net as well. -

Many goalies wonder the same thing about their thick-bodied defenders. A body is, they would say, a better screen than a window on WTF is going on in front of them. But thick-bodied defenders are too often thick-skulled defenders. And, goalies’ views on the matter are seldom welcome.

Rumour now is that Skinner wanted out of Oilerville. The atmosphere for he and fam was very unhealthy. I was glad to see him appreciated by Penguins fans and media.
As for Jarry, he wasn’t impressed by the laissez-faire defensive play (f-group, not just d-group) in front of him, but was quickly put in his place. Goalies are not allowed to criticize leadership.
We’ll see whether a now-serious/responsible leadership group gives him (and all goalies) the support they need to succeed. -
