  1. I am an aspiring follower of the four agreements. The hardest for me is probably #3: Don't make assumptions. This comes into play a lot on Mastodon, where, in my case, I am limited to 500 words. It is difficult to coalesce a complex, nuanced thought into that space. Because of that, I try to ask someone what they mean before pre-emptively blocking them. #DonMiguelRuiz #TheFourAgreements #Blocking #MastodonEtiquette #AskDontAssume

  2. I detest Lauren Boebert, but I have to observe that, if the House Representative had been her date rather than her, the scandal would have been far less and would long ago have blown over. I'm not saying she shouldn't suffer the repercussions of her arrogance, just that the countless men who do the same and worse should as well (P01135809 is a freaking rapist!)

  3. "They always talk about how the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. But it doesn't bend towards justice by gravity. You have to bend it, and there's a bunch of people trying to bend it back." Jon Stewart, talking to Fareed Zakaria.

  6. White House Ruin, Canyon de Chelley 2011 EDIT:The term “Anasazi” was established in 1927 through the archaeological Pecos Classification system ... The term is Navajo in origin, and means “ancient enemy.” The Pueblo peoples of New Mexico understandably do not wish to refer to their ancestors in such a disrespectful manner, so the appropriate term to use is “Ancestral Pueblo” or “Ancestral Puebloan.”

  7. I lived in Brooklyn (Pratt) from 1980-83. Back then, we said "May Day is Jay Day." we would congregate in Washington Square Park in the Village, the Yippies would pass out joints, and we would walk up 5th Avenue smoking them. (with a police escort!) We always stopped at Trump Tower to give the owner a one finger salute.

  10. Justice Merchan wrote that he was “keenly aware of, and protective of, Defendant’s First Amendment rights.” But nonetheless, he wrote that he would not tolerate continued violations of his orders and that if necessary and appropriate, he would “impose an incarceratory sentence.” In plain language, he is warning Trump that he will send him to jail if necessary.

  12. Rain And Ruminations In The Ruins

The stone was warm against his lower back, comforting, like the supportive touch of a lover’s hand. He allowed himself to relax into it; let all the morning’s stress leave his body; muscles unknotting, heartbeat slowing; deep breaths filling his lungs to capacity with the moisture-laden mountaintop air. The sun had worked for the better part of ten hours to impart warmth to these ancient stone blocks.

  13. When I first moved to Tucson, in 1983, there was only a chain link fence marking the border. On the hill above town there were three door-sized holes with well-worn paths, through which passed dozens of people daily, to visit family, go shopping, or to work. There was no immigration "crisis". Most people used those holes just to avoid the wait at customs. The "crisis" is manufactured, as a very effective political tool.
