My Book Release at the Curious Crow Company
The official book release party and reading for my new book The Unnamed: A Collection of Short Stories from the Greenland Diaries is this Sunday (the 25th) from 3pm – 4pm at the Curious Crow.
If you haven’t been to the Curious Crow before, it is an awesome establishment. I have done multiple events there through the last few years and I’ve loved their venue and business. There are geeky things to buy, a bar, and an enduring whimsy atmosphere.

The book I’ll be reading from is brand new. The Unnamed: A Collection of Stories from the Greenland Diaries. It is a large collection of short stories from a variety of eras in this apocalyptic storyline. Some happened before the Drum. Others during it. Some directly after. Then a few decades later. It is a diverse group of stories.
I’ve always been fascinated by monsters, and as a writer I’ve always wanted to look at them long term. This collection of short stories really explores how they might live, survive, and consolidate their trauma far into time. It is absolutely worth the $15 to be along for this ride.
So on Sunday October 22nd from 3 – 4 pm you can find me at the Curious Crow Company reading my work and selling my books. It is an awesome place, with booze and snacks a plenty.

There are at least two types of ableism here: systemic ableism, and internalized ableism.
And ableism is entwined with capitalism, toxic masculinity, and other oppressive systems, so it's a Gordian knot of these things, not simple to tease apart into separate bits.
I think this is worth watching, especially for abled people. Because the time to fight ableism is NOW. If you become disabled, it doesn't mean you're suddenly free of ableism. And every bit of contempt you've been taught to feel about disabled people will be turned on yourself. You will feel worth less. You may judge yourself as "without an identity" because you may not be able to do the same work. That will add the crushing burden of internalized ableism to the external burdens of systemic ableism.

My AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT under Linux continues to puzzle me.
Today I investigated seven graphics paths using GravityMark 1.89:
Vulkan, OpenGL, Raytracing & Compute under Linux
Vulkan, DirectX 11 & DirectX 12 via Proton
7 out of 7 tests successful. No hardlock.
And then I looked at the GPU black box …
150.2 W average
Repeatedly over 200 W
242 W as the highest reported value!
With a configured PPT limit of 175 W.
Is this a clue to our mysterious GPU/PCI failures?
Not yet proven.
But a damn interesting new question!

My home-hosted website is being hammered thousands of times an hour by a swarm of coordinated residential IP addresses that do not get used again the next next day but hit with a new batch of addresses the next day. The attack swarm does nothing other than a simple GET & that is it. What can be done? I do not see why one should play along with such coordinated nonsense. Blocking all IP addresses in the swarm would serve no purpose: they hardly any of them are re-used. #suricata #ids #firewall

Well, on the bright side, at least my Anne Pro 2 has spontaneously sprung back to life. I only bought this glitchy POS as a stand-in for the Poker 2 the first time I broke off the port because it was the same form factor and programmable enough to replicate the Poker 2's layout and fn layer, but it was always meant to be a temporary backup.
Anyway this thing just magically stopped doing keyboard things a couple weeks ago, but lo and behold, it suddenly wants to keyboard again, which is nice, because all of my keyboarding muscle memory has been ruined by the layout from a discontinued 12 year old keyboard lmao

Oh and far more than once or twice, someone will include their name, or "thank you" or "Order number <followed by the order number>", again, in spite of explicit instruction not to do so. That one doesn't matter as much; I've written my confirmation email parser to just discard whatever isn't a number, but no amount of string manipulation will extract an order # that isn't there to extract lol
