If #GreenParty #UK wants to succeed, they need to reformulate #transport policy to offer more #carrots instead of sticks..
* Keep same timescale for bans of *new* #petrol and #diesel cars as rest of EU
* Encourage and facilitate development in #EV #charging infrastructure to point its as easy to find and transparently priced as #petrol and #diesel
* Invest in training and education of #mechanics (both for conventional and EV cars) and #electricians where private sector is lacking
And only *after* they have got power start advocating such things as full bans of #petrol / #diesel cars and #scrappage schemes - reality is many suburban motorists are going #electric anyway without having to push too hard, and 20 year old cars are often unrepairable due to lack of spare parts..

A certain person (who I live with) remarked: “Now there is a thankless task!”
And yes, it is. But some people do this work.

Thinking about “civicmindedness”:
thinking and acting beyond your private life and work. Protesting, volunteering, participating in local politics, etc.How some people have it and others don’t. How our whole Western individualist value system (more so now than even 30 years ago) works to erode it, but how important it actually is, in a deep, psychological way even. We are all part of communities and need to feel it.

Based on the most recent figures available, the Green Party in England and Wales now have more members than the Conservatives and Lib Dems combined.
They're SO CLOSE to 200,000 members - not that far off from overtaking the Labour Party, even.

There is a cynical pandering by mainstream Irish parties on issues of migration. It’s particularly notable in some of the stances taken by FG.
Rather that combatting disinformation, some have opted for a me too embrace of fear based xenophobic politics.
Its shameful stuff and a distraction from the glacial pace in governance addressing #affordability, the #HousingCrisis, physical and social #infrastructure, and #SocialMobility
