Pulled the first few carrots from the Pot-O-Carrots today to add to my coleslaw for dinner. They're looking pretty good. Picture to follow.

Winter carrots seeds were sowed. This is two of 8 pots that I sowed with more mini rainbow carrots & some finger carrots. I should be able to harvest these carrots in November/December. I will have round & finger carrots sowed outdoors in pots in October & November, moved indoors over Winter & those should be ready for harvest in January/February 🥕

Little or no special equipment is required to put these goods away until you want them:

#Apples: Apples keep well for about 6 months at temperatures above freezing but below 45°F. If you don’t have a root cellar, a double cardboard box in a cool basement can approximate the conditions.

#Carrots: After harvesting, remove the green tops and brush off any excess dirt. Put the carrots into a cardboard box and pack dry sand around them. Store the box in a cool basement.

#Onions and #Garlic: Hang mature, dry-skin onion bulbs in a mesh bag in a cool, dry, airy location. Braided onions and garlic can also be hung.

#RootVegetables: If covered with a thick layer of mulch (hay, dried leaves, straw), carrots, garlic, horseradish, leeks, parsley, parsnips, radishes, and turnips can be left in the ground well into the winter and harvested into the spring."

It's pouring rain outside. Forecast calls for more rains tomorrow. My rain barrels & buckets will be filled well. Sunshine returns on Wednesday.
I'll thinning out this large pot, full of mixed carrots & some self seeded tomatoes, on Wednesday morning before going to work. I wasn't expecting that many carrot seeds to germinate. I used a bag of 3 year old seeds to sow this pot.
I grow all my root vegetables in big pots for easier harvesting. All my yams & potatoes are growing out of large felted bags. I have beetroot & turnips growing together out of a large Rubbermaid bin.

If #GreenParty #UK wants to succeed, they need to reformulate #transport policy to offer more #carrots instead of sticks..

* Keep same timescale for bans of *new* #petrol and #diesel cars as rest of EU

* Encourage and facilitate development in #EV #charging infrastructure to point its as easy to find and transparently priced as #petrol and #diesel

* Invest in training and education of #mechanics (both for conventional and EV cars) and #electricians where private sector is lacking

And only *after* they have got power start advocating such things as full bans of #petrol / #diesel cars and #scrappage schemes - reality is many suburban motorists are going #electric anyway without having to push too hard, and 20 year old cars are often unrepairable due to lack of spare parts..

Feeling under the weather today, so I woke up, made a #curry for my wife and I, ate it, put away leftovers, and am now returning to bed.

#Soup included a head of #cauliflower, a couple #carrots, an onion, a couple thumbs of #ginger, a can of #coconutmilk, an old #zucchini, and a diced chicken breast. Spinach to serve.

When I cook with meat, I try to aim for a 4:1 veg-to-meat ratio. Here's hoping the ginger helps my throat a bit.

A couple of weeks ago I made J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s Easy Stir-Fried Noodles with Mushrooms, Carrots, Basil, and Sweet Soy Sauce from _The Wok_ cookbook.

I thought these noodles were good and had a good amount of vegetables in them. 4 stars ★★★★☆
