  1. RE: toot.wales/@richrollgardener/1

Pulled the first few carrots from the Pot-O-Carrots today to add to my coleslaw for dinner. They're looking pretty good. Picture to follow.

  2. Winter carrots seeds were sowed. This is two of 8 pots that I sowed with more mini rainbow carrots & some finger carrots. I should be able to harvest these carrots in November/December. I will have round & finger carrots sowed outdoors in pots in October & November, moved indoors over Winter & those should be ready for harvest in January/February 🥕

  3. Este domingo, cuatro meses después de ver el primer brote de zanahorias, nenota y yo las cosechamos y encontramos las zanahorias más cariñosas que hemos visto nunca 🥰🥰🥰 #huertosurbanos #huertoecológico #garden #carrots

  4. CW: food, vegetarian

Today's food was very simple, but quite filling and tasty:

    • peeled a rutabaga and cut it into fairly large chunks
    • washed and peeled a couple of rather large carrots, and also cut those into similarly sized chunks
    • washed potatoes, and cut them in half, skin-on
    • Put all these in my #CrockPot Express #MultiCooker on top of the grate that came with it, and filled it with water just below the top of the grate. Added salt to the veggies, but I think I added too little.
    • Closed the lid, set the valve to 'sealed' and turned the Crock-Pot to Steam function for 8-10 minutes (can't quite remember what I set it to).
    • Cut a large onion in strips and added it to a small frying pan with a bit of oil, salt, and pepper, and put a lid on top, on medium to low heat while the Crock-Pot was heating up.
    • crushed and sliced some garlic and added it to the onions when it was time to turn the heat up.
    • once the Crock-Pot was done heating up and switched to steam mode, I cranked up the heat on the onions and removed the lid from the small frying pan. Stirred it every now and then, and added the garlic when they started to brown.
    • once the rutabaga, carrots and taters were finished, I drained them, put them in a separate bowl (to not damage the anti-stick coating), and mashed them all together
    • mixed in a knob of butter, salt, pepper, thyme. Would've added rosemary too, but I seem to be out of it.

Obviously you don't need a Crock-Pot Express for this. You can just prepare it in a regular steamer, or even just a pan with boiling water.

If I'd remembered in time, I'd probably have first sautéed the onions and garlic in the Crockpot too, and then set them aside for later, or even just had let them melt into the veggies by leaving them in the pot. Next time I'd probably also not drain the liquid, or at least keep it aside so I can add it back into the mash after pounding the veggies together.

  5. Thoughts on making Dakjuk (Korean-Style Congee with Chicken and Vegetables) from J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s _The Wok_ cookbook. Still just ok, 3 stars ★★★☆☆

Megan says “tastes like Thanksgiving,” but her tone is not praise.

  6. The contents were a mystery before we opened it, and while I would've preferred more beet roots instead of the celeriac, and some of the produce has some soft spots, I think overall it was a good deal. :) At least it's one less thing we need to buy from the shops.

The #cauliflower will probably end up in a stir-fry, and the #rutabaga in a mash with some thyme, rosemary, #carrots and potatoes.

The #courgette 🥒 might make a small soup, same with the #brokkoli. :)
