Was at the forest behind the farm to deal with invasive holly. On the scramble back out I spotted this wee little moist friend of the #understory, near the shelter of salal. I love #salamanders so much... They have such lovely skin. XD It's their mating season soon, a busy time for #amphibians. Please don't handle them if you ever see them on your wanders. Avoiding yardwork to visit Belfountain for the world famous 17th annual Salamander Festival. Wore my orange golf shirt in honour of #NationalDayOfTruthAndReconciliation, bought a couple of homemade wooden tops for the granddaughter and listened to my neighbour's country and western band. Better than weeding.

Herpetologists are calling for greater inclusion of amphibians in African conservation planning, in a recent letter published in the journal Science. The researchers note that amphibians — frogs, salamanders and caecilians — are especially important as early-warning detectors of ecological disruption, given their sensitivity to pathogens, thermal stress, pollution and hydrological changes in their wetland habitats.
