  1. Dmitry Osyagin Turned Out Not to Be an Anarchist — He Considers Himself an Anti-War Democrat

The Anarchist Black Cross of Moscow has received information that Dmitry Osyagin does not identify himself as an anarchist or an anti-fascist — he considers himself an anti-war democrat. The reason why the security services attributed to him participation in the “Combat Organization of Anarcho-Communists” (BOAK) is currently unknown. It may be due to the authorities’ desperation to announce the arrest of at least one member of this elusive underground organization.

  7. Lucio Urtubia Jiménez was a Spanish anarchist known for his practice of expropriative anarchism through forgery and anti-fascist direct action.

Lucio was born in Cascante, Navarre, Spain on February 18th, 1931. As a young man, he served in the Spanish military, but deserted, fleeing to France in 1954 after ransacking a warehouse that belonged to his company.

After moving to Paris, Urtubia was asked to hide a member of the Maquis, Spanish guerrillas who opposed Franco from exile, in his house. The refugee in this case turned out to be legendary anti-fascist Francesc Sabaté Llopart, one of the two Sabaté brothers.

Urtubia’s anti-fascist actions continued as he learned how to forge government documents and currency, using these skills to aid left-wing movements around the world. One of the most dramatic examples took place in 1977, when he forged $20 million dollars worth of Citibank traveler’s checks, money which went to aid revolutionary insurgencies in Latin America.

“We are bricklayers, painters, electricians - we do not need the state for anything. The banks are the real crooks. They exploit you, take your money and cause all the wars.”

In 1997, he established a social centre in Paris which he dubbed the Louise Michel Space. He died in 2020.

A documentary interviewing him about his activities, “Lucio” (2007), is free to watch via @solidarity.cinema . He was also canonized into further pop culture consciousness with the dramatized Netflix original “Un hombre de acción” (A Man of Action) (2022).

  19. Some good news to start your week:

Last year, London anti-fascist S. was charged with "assault" for his role in preventing Immigration officers from kidnapping refugees that they intended to dump in Rwanda, despite ample witnesses and video evidence showing that the person being assaulted was S. himself by those very same Immigration officers!

    S. had to hire a solicitor to fight the charges. The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund, along with S.'s friends, put together the fund to hire a decent one.

Last week, S. had his trial and was found not guilty on all charges! Full story:
    intlantifadefence.wordpress.co

This is yet another example of how important the work of The Defence Fund is in ensuring that anti-fascists are properly defended in the courts. Please help us ensure that anti-fascists are always able to vigorously defend themselves against false charges - make a contriubtion to the Defence Fund today!

  20. This Thursday in Waterskaap, #Groningen:

In every city there are anti-fascist centres, active in political issues and engaged in demonstrations. In #Germany however, the famous #antifa flag is not seen at demonstrations for #Palestine; on the contrary, it is sometimes seen together with that of #Israel. What does this mean? Who are the anti-deutsch and why do the other German antifa tolerate the colonialist drift of this movement?

On Thursday, January 16th starting 7 p.m. we will have a presentation and open mic where we can discuss this together.

The evening will be presented by one of the participants of the protest camp under the parliament in Berlin Besetzung gegen besatzung (Occupy Against Occupation).

A special mention to @anarchists4palestine and Flora fuer alle (Rote Flora for all) for their efforts in #Berlin and #Hamburg.
