#AXOLOTLS (common name Mexican Walking Fish) is pronounced Ax-oh-lot-ul and in AZTEC axolotl means WATER DOG. They can regrow their own limbs and have been subjects for many scientific studies to determine if their #regenerative properties can help humanity.
They have a a long, smooth body and thin legs with wide-spaced fingers. They can be white, black, pink, yellow and green and either solid-colored or with mottled contrast.
They NORMALLY have pink gills that look like hair sticking out and up, but black axolotls have blue gills.
Their #cutest feature is their semi-permanent smile that hides the gaping maw of their mouth which opens to suck up prey like a vacuum.
On avg they're 9-10" long and weigh about 10 oz.
They're so popular because they retain their juvenile appearance for all of their life. So they look like tadpoles forever.
They're non harmful to humans but sadly they're critically endangered in the wild.
