Then tosdr.org/en is worth checking to get the am idea of the #BadStuff you agree to.

  5. Have you to deny to train AI on you yet?

If not, do it here: github.com/settings/copilot/fe - it is on by default of course.

  6. @calum

I've come across the odd ones stuck in that ((((LISP)))) world.

1+ year ago I went vscode -> :neovim: and haven't looked back. Absolutely loving it with .

  7. RE: fedi.simonwillison.net/@simon/

I like what Simon is writing in his blog about this. In particular about the forkability of the tools. Backed up by quoting Armin Ronacher:

    - "even in the worst possible future this is a very forkable and maintainable thing"

  8. I don't trust anything that say or promise. Now they're buying openai.com/index/openai-to-acq - and gains control over , and .

That the "Astral team will join the Codex team at OpenAI and over time, we’ll explore deeper integrations" - makes me wonder how well these really great tools will keep functioning stand alone in the future.

Can I keep being depended on them for managing my :python: projects?

AI companies are gaining al the more control of the toolchain!

Great overview. Just want to add that Signal is #OpenSource an their #SignalProtocol (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signal_P) is used by quite a few other messaging apps. Including Whatsapp and Google.

  12. @hehemrin @Anders_S

  14. @scottjenson @[email protected] @leanderlindahl @HennaVirkkunen @dgoldsmith @Mastodon

    Exponentially harder I would say.

For something like federated Community Notes an is probably needed, with a set of governing rules that must be followed to qualify.

  15. The other thing I will do is to use both Vim and Neovim.

    :vim: for local system admin
:neovim: with LazyVim for dev and other use

The idea here is to create my own custom .vimrc tuned for local system admin stuff, that can me reused everywhere so it is the same on all machines. Including when I log in remote.

  16. Damn how easy have made it for managing :python: projects.

This was the first time I used it to upgrade the and I just stared at the screen for like 10 seconds completely dumbfounded đŸ€Ș

  17. Today I must learn what is, and how I get myself out of the pickle ending up there on .

:linux: delivers learning every day đŸ€“

  18. :zorin: installed on and thus far I am very pleased with both look and feel on this with laptop.

Only thing I couldn't quickly sort out is the Fingerprint Password Settings app in the repo.

Other than that I have no problem seeing why it has become a popular choice for those with that Microsoft gave a 🖕 to about upgrading to .

  19. That would make it:

    :fedora: for the Workstation
:archlinux: for the daily driver laptop
:bazzite: for the dual boot play machine
    :zorin: for the easy2use laptop

đŸ€” I am going to enjoy that diversity.

Reordered just to make it 😆

  20. @brettcannon

In your specific example, assuming the project is using semver.org/, I would reevaluate - thinking I got it wrong since I know you are so much more experienced than me.

However, my main reason for making it show easier, including for the --version, is that there are a lot of x.y.z projects that isn't .

    packaging.python.org/en/latest list quite a few.

What if pyproject.toml had something like:

    [project]
    name = "demo"
    version-scheme = "SemVer 2.0.0"
    version = "0.1.0"

  21. @brettcannon

Generally I find SemVer as the best versioning scheme. One of the few exceptions is for OS's, where makes more sense.

What would be a great improvement, especially for , is if it would show better that a project is using it. Both in the repo and like here when doing "--version" in the CLI. Icing on the cake would be if release date also shows:

    > python -V
    Python 3.13.7 SemVer 2025-08-14

  22. RE: fosstodon.org/@ThePSF/11553780

The resent show of courage to say no to $1.5 million, because the strings attached failed to pass core principles of the :python: community (see msn.com/en-us/education-and-le) made it easy for me to quickly stop procrastinating by becoming a proper supporting member of .

    With automatic annual renewal ✅

  23. @calum

Recently I added to my terminal. Now when I cd to a :python: repo its .venv is automatically sourced. Including picked up by :neovim: when running it there. All needed is that .envrc with "layout uv" in the repo root.

And, as seen in the screenshot, is also picking it up.

Adding this kind of cleverness on system level, instead of a GUI monolith, takes using and developing to completely new levels.

  24. AMD has already released its first for one of their CPU architectures, specifically :

    youtu.be/JplSooSb30o

This is quite big, as it means they are replacing its AGESA with an BIOS.

And it will be the future for newer Zen's too.

More on AMD and openSIL: basicinputoutput.com/2025/01/a

  25. This weekend I will install Windows 11 25h2 on my new dual boot monstermachine build. So naturally I am preparing myself by watching youtu.be/r3XLQMsQGGk

  27. @scottjenson

But, we also have the race to find the - that for AI is AGI.

The premise is simple: The game is over then - The one getting first will rule the world.

That has roped world politics into the mess, especially between USA and China.

Thus, we have a perfect storm fueled by tech companies and bad leaders in cahoot, who don't care about anything else than not letting the other side getting there first.

Our only hope is that this burst as soon as possible.

  28. Well hello there for :firefox: and :chromium:

Oh how though will make me even less use the mouse đŸ€Ș

  29. It đŸ€Ż me how clever decouples creation time from the local file metadata when saved, and/or a db-column/key.

Reading uuid7.com/ I am beginning to see how using it will simplify so much of the idea I'm working on. Both for single use and scale nicely to all the more complexed distributed collaboration.

It means I can probably use just one UUID7 instead of the current design with multiple data pieces and lots of complex code/logic.

Can it really be so elegant đŸ€”

  30. @bagder

Watched it and yes, DOT delivered another good introduction to a useful DX tool. I know it will make me use exponentially more.

It also made me install as a complement. Both because I like how colors make it easier to analyse, and for it providing a less complex command for basic stuff.

But also for its "--curl" option ;)

  31. It was so sweet to wake up at 🕚, after a well timed last night. Quite restored after a completely crazy work week that felt like 347% overloaded by stuff coming in from all directions.

But good, because it was mostly about things I've for years been trying us to change focus to solving causes, instead fixated on quick workarounds to the consequences users reports.

    - Maybe the mindset of my colleagues finally is changing, to get that fixing the source makes the consequences stop?

    Could it?

Had to postpone digging into it. But turning on the global "Wayland windowing system" was an immediate win as it fixed Obsidian scaling.

So thanks for that quick bonus. Will have to sett aside some time as revealed so many interesting options to get my head around.

Now I know much better đŸ€Ș

  37. The one good thing with #Trump:

    - He makes it so easy to identify and write #DONTs for how not do as a leader!

For practically all it is also quite easy to then find one of more #DOs to use instead.

Using him this way has immensely helped me better understand, learn and develop a lot about #leadership.

It is - in a trumpian weird way - sort of a gift that keeps giving.

So it will be interesting to learn which ones will pitch in to fund this amazing service.

    omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/08/lvfs-s

What about if it is visible in the GUI, or output in the terminal if a vendor sponsors the service?

fwupd.org/lvfs/vendors/ could be made easier for users to find in, including if a device is updateable from there before deciding to buy it.

This is a positive opportunity for everyone!

  42. :vim: motion has been an interesting experience making an effort learning.

I particular resting four fingers on each hand on ASDF and HJKL, then trying to learn how to type with all eight with as smart movement as possible.

At 57yo retraining how to type on a keyboard, especially this different, is a major unlocking task of my muscle memory.

But now I can say it has totally been worth it, as I'm starting to get a hang of it. Now I am sure the speed will soon 🚀

  43. Looking for a battery protection app that let me cap charging to something like 80% that works with :arch: +

Nice! I got the charcoal one, with glass side. It will become my content creation and fun for the living room. Dual boot and will first test bazzite.gg/ :bazzite:
