Now, there's apparently a Win10 zero-day vulnerability in the wild. A vulnerability that Microsoft HAS A FIX FOR.

And yet they won't allow you to run it if you haven't paid up for support.

They should be REQUIRED TO RELEASE the fix to all.

Windows 10 just put this massive fucking full-screen nag "Windows 10 support has ended” pushing Windows 11, with a [Remind me later] [Learn more]

@rmflight How are you running your windows VM? I've been thinking about that as an option also. Running a #Win10 VM in something like virtual box with Windows office installed with EndNote and Zotero.

I've also started just writing up all my "collaborative" work summaries directly in R Markdown inserting the figures and tables inline where possible and knitting to PDF.

Picked up a litle Dell laptop..
Used: $200 16gb ram. I want to keep it runing Windows 10 as long as practical to regain some Win10 MS-Skills(tm). Watching it plod through updates has me craving to just do a nice Linux install. Am forcing myself to leave it a plebian Windows boxen so I can mess with Powershell .ps1 scripts, etc.. What is the kewlest thing I should be using this for? #Windows #Win10

Windows (10/11) Ignorance Question:

I need a .exe file that can run a couple of commands. Intent is for it to replace a program in the Startup list, so it can run a config command to fix some display wonkiness after startup. Does anything useful like that already exist for legit purposes? It's a bespoke modified locked down Win10 system being used as a controller with a weird display config.

Using #win10 and see this in some folders, the m$ is advertizing fucking onedrive and add the whole fucking tab in the ribbon just to store the small fucking icon

remove it is easy, first exit the fucking onedrive and then click the icon again the problem seems to be solved

(or not, eventually m$ asked for confirmation after pressing the button, so don't be scared)

In die tussentijd kun je al met Win10 genieten van (wennen aan) programma's die in Linux gebruikt worden. Vrijwel alle programma's hebben een Windows versie.

Zo kun je ze zonder enig probleem eens uitproberen.

Part of the reason I've been quiet in the last few weeks is that I've abandoned #Windows again!

I had moved to #LinuxMint 17 around 2015 and later upgraded to 19 after I'd managed to trash a new upgraded #Win10 machine. (My fault! I played - badly - with the only admin user account which made the machine inaccessible.)

When I bought an "Amazon Refurbished" #Dell Optiplex 7010 box I returned to Windows and got used to Win10. I'd paid for Windows so thought I ought not waste my money. In the UK, at least, MS allows to to carry on getting security updates for free, but time is running out on that offer, I believe, and my Optiplex is not upgradable to #Win11.

I'm still having to re-learn a few things but, other than Windows itself, the last Microsoft product I used was Office2000, Everything since then has been open source and available on Linux, so it's been pretty painless.

I had an idea for a conference : talk about #endofwindows10 and its consequences on our computers... while cosplaying Helen of Troy (yes after all microsoft is just a #trojan horse right?), see my cfp here: https://cloud.fripost.org/f/8279463

@rl_dane I recently had the „honor“ to upgrade a #win10 system to #win11.

It rebooted nine(9) times…

Next stage is to install a #Linux system onto the unused #Win10 desktop to experiment with NAS connections and #Wine (for a couple of 'essential' programs that don't have a Linux version). This should give confidence to replace Win10 on the 'daily use' laptop with a Linux system.

Then free of Windows and MicroSoft! Result!

My first exposure to a computer was #XP. Kept using it until the 6th grade.

Skipped #Vista since my PC couldn't handle it.

Got my first laptop in 7th grade, #Win7. Loved it.

When #Win8 came out, I started to see the OS I loved turn to shit. 8.1 was only a mild improvement.

10th grade, dualbooted #Win10 with #Ubuntu until Year-4 of Uni.

When #Win11 came out and I decided to fully commit to #Linux.

Tho I'm happy I jumped ship early on before this crap, can't help but mourn my childhood #OS.
