Earlier this year, we reported some vulnerabilities, often along with suggested patches to OpenBSD. One traced back roughly 37 years to the original BSD sources, where a shared memory attachment counter was defined as a signed 16-bit short. Repeatedly forking a process with shared memory attachment records could push that counter past its maximum value of 32,767, causing it to wrap to a negative value. This integer overflow could lead to a use-after-free via a race condition; combined with a separate out-of-bounds write in the kernel, it allowed local privilege escalation to root. The issues were addressed in errata 026 and 018, respectively.

Peppers stuffed with salt fish brandadeFull on funky smell of the salt fish as it hydrated for hours in water, but after poaching in water then milk and blitzing with garlic and olive oil, it was a surprisingly mild brandade in the end. Stuffed inside peppers and baked in a tomato sauce flavoured with smoked paprika and fennel seeds.

I might have mentioned this before, but I was an odd fish as a child*. Mum thought I was a bit thick because I didn't start reading aged one like my elder sister. I actually remember thinking those stupid Janet and John books were just an annoying waste of my time. Literally the first book I ever read was Robin Hood, aged four, and I just never stopped for a decade. I was allergic to stuff that was transparently condescending to kids.
If anyone else was similarly odd, I'm guessing I'll find them here.
