The Heart Nebula, also designated as IC 1805 or Sharpless 2-190, is an emission nebula located approximately 7,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by astronomer William Herschel on November 3, 1787. The nebula is notable for its striking appearance, which resembles a human heart, and it spans an area about four times the diameter of the full moon in the night sky

Day 1614 #DailyPhoto #SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #HeartNebula aka #IC1805 is an emission nebula 7500 light years from earth in the Persus arm of our galaxy. The center of the Heart contains a newborn (1.5 million years old) star cluster called Melotte 15. This image is 2.5 hours of exposure (30x300 seconds) that I started at 2 this morning under a nearly full moon (not ideal conditions). #StillLearning

The blue is caused by ionized oxygen and the orange by ionized sulfur. I captured 66 five minute exposures the night before last but had to throw away almost an hour and a half of exposure because of the Canadian wildfire smoke. #StillLearning
