  1. Most sessions from this year's Open Source Cryptography Workshop last month in Taipei are now posted on the Internet Archive. You can find them, and photos, on the workshop's site: oscwork.shop/2026

We thank everyone who participated, attended, proposed topics, led sessions, and made #OSCW a successful part of Real World Crypto 2026. And we especially thank our generous sponsor, Google, and the IACR for hosting us as an Affiliated Event this year! #rwc2026 #rwc #oscw2026

  2. It's the new year, and as a reminder the Open Source Cryptography Workshop before #RWC2026 in Taipei is still looking for sessions on topics relevant to open source cryptography use, maintenance, design. The #CFP closes at the end of January. We do have some stipends for chosen speakers! #rwc #oscw #oscw2026 mastodon.sandwich.net/@coffee/

  3. The Open Source Cryptography Workshop is returning for 2026, before Real World Crypto in Taipei. We are calling for session proposals, both presentations and hands-on workshops, on topics of interest to those who work on and with open source crypto. oscwork.shop/2026 #oscw #rwc #oscw2026 #rwc2026

  4. Picked up usememos.com/ as a replacement for Google Keep and iCloud Notes. It's super simple to set up with Docker, has a web app, supports tags, markdown, checklists, attachments, and editing, and resembles the Google Keep from some years back.
The way it's set up, I wouldn't expose it to the internet - doesn't look like security has been considered at all.
I'm just using Tailscale for access.
It's neat and I like it.

Also planning to ditch Nextcloud for public file link sharing and move to Zipline instead later today.

  5. RSVPs and Call for Talks for the Open Source Cryptography Workshop are now open. OSCW 2025 will take place before Real World Crypto on 25 March 2025 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The agenda and further details will be posted soon! oscwork.shop/2025 #oscw #oscw2025 #rwc #rwc2025

  6. A progress report of sorts?

Over the past week I spent a lot of time and bothered a lot of very talented people on my quest to figure out Blender, Unity, and, in particular, proper/advanced Unity lighting techniques to deliver stunning lighting at a fraction of the cost of realtime global illumination, all aimed at overhauling my VRChat world which was based primarily on assets from Second Life which used full-bright diffuse maps with baked-in lighting and shadows. The goal was simple: change it from day to night, bake lights myself, simple as heck, but in the end it spiralled out of control with a lot of UV optimisation work and some custom items I modelled, unwrapped, and textured entirely from scratch.

Below is going to be a thread of pictures I took as I worked towards completing the overhaul.

  7. Started reworking my VRChat home world I carried over from Second Life because I got tired of 1024x1024 maps and because all the diffuse textures came with baked lighting and shadows, and I wanted to change it from day to night.

This bookshelf is complete and total nonsense and I realised I now absolutely must research, model, and stack on shelves roughly 300~500 books I read over my lifetime with accurate sizes, thickness, and bespoke covers. Hoo boy.

PSA: If you invite a bunch of furries to a puzzle evening, a few of the following can happen:
    1. Every stuffed animal in the apartment will be picked up and left in a random spot;
    2. Fur everywhere;
    3. Puzzle pieces will be chewed on; and
    4. A puzzle will be left half-assembled due to the forming of a creature pile.

  9. @cbrocas I got the idea from ShmooCon actually! archive.org/details/shmoocon20

I’ve always been a fan of (and donor to) Archive.org, but doing this with #OSCW is my first opportunity I’ve seen to use it as an alternative to YouTube myself.

    Thanks Christophe!

  10. All of the Open Source Cryptography Workshop session recordings are posted now. For all of them and the slides, see oscwork.shop/2024/ . #OSCW #OSCW2024

  11. We had an excellent Open Source Cryptography Workshop last Thursday, bringing together developers, maintainers, and users of open source cryptography in Toronto after #RWC2024. Most of the session recordings are now posted, along with photographs and slides. We thank everyone who participated, and our 2024 sponsor, Google, for making this possible. See oscwork.shop/2024/ #OSCW #OSCW2024

  12. The Open Source Cryptography Workshop 2024 program is now posted. See ‪oscwork.shop/2024/ #OSCW #OSCW2024

We're hoping to record sessions and post them after, though as we haven't done that before, it's going to be an Adventure, and I won't make guarantees. Cindy and I promise to try!

    See you in two weeks!

  13. Filippo has announced the #Sunlight #CertificateTransparency log design on ct-policy #CT groups.google.com/a/chromium.o

Let's Encrypt has also announced adopting Sunlight for new logs that we hope will be more scalable and dramatically less expensive: Sycamore, Willow, and our new test log, Twig: letsencrypt.org/2024/03/14/int

  14. I'll be attending the Real World Crypto Symposium in Toronto in two weeks time (#RWC), and after that, I'm once again co-organizing the Open Source Cryptography Workshop. (#OSCW2024)

I’ll also be real happy to talk about the new developments with the #Sunlight #CertificateTransparency log design, Let’s Encrypt’s new ACME Renewal Information (#ARI) draft specification, #CRLite, Rustls… all that stuff.

  15. Pacific Drive is essentially Subnautica: Escape from Roadside Picnic, and it tickles my fancy in all the right ways.

    Such a well-made game, too.

  16. The Open Source Cryptography Workshop will be held the Thursday after #RWC, on 28 March, at the University of Toronto Chestnut Conference Center. Pre-registration is required, registration is now open, and some of the sessions are announced. See oscwork.shop/2024/ #OSCW #OSCW2024

  17. The Open Source Cryptography Workshop will be held the Thursday after #RWC, on 28 March, at the University of Toronto Chestnut Conference Center. Pre-registration is required, and will open in February. More information to follow! oscwork.shop/2024/ #OSCW #OSCW2024

  18. The Open Source Cryptography Workshop is returning for 2024, again after #RWC. We’re requesting ideas for sessions from the community, focused on those who build and use open source #cryptography libraries and solutions. Last year we held sessions about bugfinding, adopting #Rustls in libcurl, and clean-sheet #cryptosystem design.

The RFP form is available via oscwork.shop/2024/

  19. Driving up to #KDVT this morning to theoretically take our club's new airplane out for my first time.

Last night it apparently had a nighttime bird strike at 6,000ft, over the mountains north of Phoenix.

The pilot flying said it made a feathery mess but there's no damage (poor bird!), but I'll see what I see when I get there

  20. While I couldn't be at the Open Source Cryptography Workshop or #RealWorldCrypto to speak and collaborate in-person (because I got COVID again, woo), I recorded my Workshop talk about #Rustls-FFI and #curl, which just played there in Tokyo.

I've embedded the recording in my blogpost here: insufficient.coffee/2023/03/30

I got some good live questions about using multiple layers of statically (or dynamically) linked FFI libraries, and about compiling rustls-ffi on systems unsupported by #ring.

  21. It's a little alarming that I'm leaving for #RWC2023 in #Tokyo in like, 36 hours. Also still amusing to me that it'll be my first time attending in person, after all these years.

My talk about #Rustls and #Rustls-ffi is ready (except I'm going to stress about it until I give it), but this is my first international travel this era, so I'm stressing.

    insufficient.coffee/2023/03/21

  22. This is major boon for #pilots who are leaving Birdsite - I kept my Bird notifications for the commentary from my local NWS station. #aviation #flightschool hachyderm.io/@amart/1095208839
