I...I fucking did it...I did it....*collapses after finnishing a chapter* It's just as much of a strain to outline as it is to write, it's still reaching out to the stars and capturing their explosive chemical reactions, compressing celestial bodies and pounding them into words. The outline for Volume three is complete….well, just about. I need one more short chapter to ease the transition from this volume to the next, but yeah. I think the heavy atmospheric pressure from the bad guy might have gotten to me a bit…

Four and a half hours of sleep, woke up irritated and super irritable, it’s gonna be a FANtastic DAY!!! At least it’s my Friday, I guess…Guzzling down an energy drink (Monster’s Strawberry Lemonade flavor. It’s good, despite all the proud USA imagery…) and ready to work on outlining the last chapter for the 3rd volume of my series. Still pondering over what I should be writing weekly while continuing with this big undertaking. Whelp, hope your day’s been better than my mood.

A few years of gathering inspiration and information before a couple of years of writing? Damn. I'm just here feeling like I'm taking forever to plot out my next five or so books, I guess it's not that bad. Taking a year to write (like I've done with previous books) feels like way too long though. I'd imagine it's worse with more dedicated readers. Well, hang in there my wonderful supporters. I keep on thinking I need to work on a side-project meanwhile. I did start up a few short stories last year as a bit of an introduction into the world of Dark Shadow. I got one of those scammy phishing emails today. So-and-so would like to feature your book in our reading group or whatever. You can probably hear my eyes rolling when I open those up. This one was more vague than ever, and full of mumbo-jumbo talk. At least it didn't look official at all, no need for me to waste some time to look things up.

I think it's time for The Cure while I do some book outlining. I'm working on chapter 26 in Volume 3. Volume 1 will continue with the urban fantasy vibes of Shadowed Memories, Volume 2 dips into scifi space-opera territory, while 3 continues the gritty cyberpunk thriller of a world established in Making Contact.

I was reading an article on Substack (talking about people using ai, not wanting to embarrass them, but knowing it from the writing), and they mentioned this other writing platform, Medium, that I forgot existed. So, I went and logged into my Medium account, just thinking about how funny it is this thing is just there collecting virtual dust, and the last notification I got was from 2018, for a book I wrote about Kurai, that in the end I felt kinda "meh" about and never put out there. Someone applauded the quote, and I'm just looking at it like, "wtf, I wrote this?" Guess I'll have to go back through that piece, even if it's just to better my work going forward. ~E.L.F.

Hello there, it’s me again, your local (to Earth) indie author. How’s your day going? Your week? I’m alright over here, although the migraine from work last night decided to try it’s way back into my head, even after the long awesome dream I had in my very rare 7 hours of sleep. I wrote down the last bit of it that I can remember, maybe I’ll drop it in a post soon.
Oh, here comes the puppy, whining to go out again. Just a second, void…
…Like I was saying…
What was I saying? That’s right, the dream. I usually don’t dream (I’m rarely in deep enough sleep for that) so it’s exciting when one breaks through, and I’m always interested in other people’s dreamscapes. Oh yeah, and the migraine; my sensitivity to the lights at work has progressed as the days have gone by. My poor eyes are tired from them searing into my retinas, and roasting my skin…
Alright, that’s enough rambling today. I’ve gotta get to making dinner anyway. Tell me something, do you remember your dreams often? Also, are you affected by bright lights like a fellow creature of the night?

A friend recommended his favorite story to listen to (he does audiobooks), so I've been reading it, and the story itself is interesting so far, but the writing is killing me. It's a serialized story on Webnovel where the author released about two chapters a day for four years, with the story having a big fanbase. Since then, the author has gone on to work on other things, but my gosh is it depressing to read. The story isn't bad, or the subject matter depressing, but I'm 49 chapters in and the writing is still so very amateurish. I can acknowledge that it's great to be able to write this continuous story, releasing so much on a daily basis, but there's ridiculously repetitious paragraphs, and there are crazy little things like introducing someone holding a "rapier sword." A rapier is a type of sword!
Anyway, the point is, I understand that we live in an on-demand world where everything has to be quick and punchy, and that's how people are able to write things like this and get away with it (not to mention the horrendous declining literacy rates...) but that doesn't mean I have to settle.
I'm sticking with my plan, plotting out the volumes for my continuation to Shadowed Memories. I may be weighing my options on putting out rough drafts of chapters out there, with plans to publish them on my Substack for paid subscribers on top of other behind-the-scenes content while I think about going back to Inkitt, but I don't plan on compromising my worlds.
I’ll try and use some of this anguish and disdain for more chapter plotting.

I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend! I’m feeling extra exhausted today and wishing I could sleep for days without end, haha. On the plus side, one of my favorite bands, Dance Gavin Dance, released a new album! It’s their third Tree City Sessions release, a series of live studio albums where they revisit songs from their nearly two decades of making amazing music. I’ve been especially excited to hear their new singer’s take on some older songs (I love Andrew Wells and his work with Eidola). Well, I’m gonna do some story plotting before helping prepare dinner. We’re having Japanese-Style Chicken and Rice Curry today.

I find it so difficult to figure out what to say in these posts, which is why I’ve had inconsistency issues in the past. Yes, being exhausted and stressed with the everyday struggle of survival doesn’t help, but that’s not everything. One thing my head keeps going back to is a simple idea that should help with these posts: “Just put out there what you’d like to see from other writers.” I guess one of my problems is I don’t tend to find myself hunting for tidbits from my favorites, so it makes me feel like I lack a basic framework for what I should be doing with social media when it comes to my writing.
It’s alright, I’ll keep at it and get better.
I am going to shoot for one to two posts a week (I know, that’s nothing when it comes to the wild world of social media), whether I just drop a couple of sentences to show that I’m still within the confines of this dimension, or I dive into something longer, like character lore, how my book ideas spawned, my big series plans, or how Vampire Hunter D is one of my favorite characters in fiction. For now, my plan is also to not have much behind my Substack subscription paywall, as I’m working hard to plot out a whole series while also wondering if I need to find a part-time job to give my strapped finances some sort of breathing room.
All that said, I’ve had some coffee, I’ve got some music going (Yama’s Versus the Night album at the moment), I think it’s time to shoot this blog post out into the void hoping it reaches my dear readers (present and future), and work on plotting Chapter 4 of Shadowed Memories: Dark Shadow Volume 3. Maybe I’ll have to talk more about that in the next post…

Before the winter break I wrote about 8 chapters for my next book, a sequel to Shadowed Memories. Getting back to it, I've decided to rewrite what I've already got, while trying to get a bit of a different style and tone down. Pray to Meraki (god of creativity/creation) it works out well. If it doesn't... I won't cry about scrapping the new words and leaning more into what I've already written while pressing forward. Either way, I'm writing, and making progress in becoming a better writer while trying to further refine my writing style. Don't forget to keep dreaming, and working towards your goals. ~E.L.F.

One of my favorite podcasts covered The Warrens, the couple who's stories spawned a huge horror universe from The Conjuring movies, to The Nun, and of course The Amityville Horror. If you know me, you probably know that I love horror movies, and I do enjoy these flicks, but I do get annoyed with the way they are portrayed as reality...that said, Stuff You Should Know does a great job of going through the claims presented by The Warrens (which are covered in the films) and breaking down reality (like I didn't know they actually went to a writer to work up the story used in the first Conjuring movie, and the writer was interviewed and of course said how of course everything is all made up). Love the movies, annoyed with how people take them as true occurrences, instead of, "strange things happen, that were unexplained," or, "some people have undiagnosed conditions and need actual help, not religious intervention," etc. The podcast is worth a listen, and can be found all around (I personally use Pocket Casts on android to listen to stuff).
