While Vampire Hunter D, The Dark Tower, and Dreamcatcher were probably the most influential books when it comes to my own work, other mediums of story telling have definitely seasoned my storytelling. I love the cosmic horror underpinnings of the game Bloodborne, the thoughtful and emotional storytelling of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and I can’t get enough of horror movies with dark foreboding or ambiguous conclusions. I’m also a huge fan of Inuyasha and the world that unfolds within the anime/manga, from the struggles and growth of characters, to the ebb and flow of the storyline itself.

Where does inspiration come from? Everywhere and everything. It’s in the things we see around us, and in the conversations we have. It’s in the things we read, media we watch, and games we play. I’m heavily inspired by the works of the great horror novelist Hideyuki Kikuchi, more specifically the ongoing Vampire Hunter D series as well as Yashakiden: The Demon Princess. They both capture very unique horror vibes that in themselves feel influenced by anime/manga culture. VHD features a stoic hero on an endless quest, where every book pits him against more over-the-top enemies than the last, while being nestled in a post apocalyptic world unlike any other, with its blend of scifi and fantasy. Yashakiden on the other hand is a sickly sweet vampire series set within Demon City Shinjuku, where humans and monsters have this rough coexistence reliant on agreements between different communities, something that is thrown into disarray when an ancient vampire from another land comes into the mix. Every character is unique, wild, and fantastical in their own deadly way.

I swear stress is killing me... I'm at a point where it feels like my psoriasis will never calm down because of it (extra events make my skin feel like it was burning so bad the last few days), I ended up falling behind with my usual writing habits, and of course I screwed up with my better posting consistency. Well...I am still here, pushing forward as best as my exhausted totally drained self can. I hope everyone else if doing better than this, and if you're not, if you're out there struggling with your own battles, big or small, know that you are not alone. Keep on pushing. Myself, and my characters.The handful of people who read my work. Whatever other big Vampire Hunter D fans there are out there who'd like something to read set in a similar world, but with a protagonist that doesn't start out in god mode, and has an internal struggle against darkness that continues through the series.

I usually do some writing on my breaks at work, but with all my stress and tiredness I decided to just read some more Vampire Hunter D instead. I've read all of the books translated to English, and love how they get better with each one, as well as how they get crazier with the challenges D must face. It's a big inspiration to my own work, more specifically my current project, the series #DarkShadow. Unlike D who is god-like right off the bat though, my fiend hunter starts off in a more feeble state. I hope those who end up reading enjoy his transformation throughout my books. My novel Shadowed Memories (prt 2) gives a decent glimpse into his future.
