  1. Hyperlinks are the key to harnessing the FORCE unleashed by the #Web. Any platform that obscures this power does so for short-sighted reasons, aiming to limit user freedom. Great platforms thrive by delivering quality service—not by resorting to enshittification-based lock-in. #OpenWeb #WebWeWant

  2. Loose coupling with Knowledge Graphs offers an #LLM hallucination minimization solution.

You can pull this off using our #VirtuosoRDBMS via the #ChatGPT #SPARQL plugin that we recently released.

    Example: chat.openai.com/share/38fba060

Or from within an instance, courtesy of #OpenAI external function integration.

  8. @atomicpoet,

The gut-response is always a #Twitter vs @Mastodon comparison. I fell for that initially, but quickly realized how Mastodon was a game-changer on a new level.

    Link: medium.com/@kidehen/mastodon-a

Fundamentally, Twitter has destroyed the #Web20 model while Mastodon has unleashed the #Fediverse (a #Web30 paradigm collective).

#BigSocial and #BigTech (in general) have opened the eyes of many, moving the innovation pendulum back to the #Web 😀

  9. @KevinMarks ,

Here's a single #hyperlink that denotes the @anildash post that kicked off this thread.

    linkeddata.uriburner.com/about

That's a fully fledged data source name that delivers structured data to user-agents in a variety of negotiable formats.

    Just click to explore 😀

"You can hold it back for some period of time, but in the long run, freedom always wins because freedom and openness let people all over the world be fully creative and innovative in every way they want."

    Golden!

  11. @atomicpoet,

Regarding "Personal data is the new oil." [1], the #Fediverse will take us to a better place where "Personal data is the new electricity" conducted via hyperlinks [2].

Oil reflects the current extractive (and polluting) mindset that drives #Web20 #DataSilos and #SurveillanceCapitalism.

Electricity aligns with technological inflection that ushers in a new frontier :)

  16. @alvaro ,
I see the #Fediverse as an integral part of #Web30 for sure.
    My reasons are as follows:
    1. #ActivityPub as a commonly supported protocol for CRUD operations
    2. #ActivityStreams as a common structured data format for CRUD operation payloads
    3. #ActivityStreams is also #RDF expressed using #JSONLD
    4. Everything is loosley-coupled rather than tightly-coupled, so no silos

  20. @shanselman,
    Yep!

Add “.json” and you have an #ActivityStream rendition.

Each Activty Stream is a navigable #Web of #Data that represents your personal #DataSpace within the #Fediverse 😀

    #WebWeWant

  21. Beyond clients for #MicroBlogging platforms, I also expect a lot of loose-coupling to occur at each of the following levels, via #Fediverse solutions:

    1. #Identity
    2. #identification
    3. #authentication
    4. #authorization
    5. #storage

By the end of this year, I anticipate this level of loose-coupling to have gained significant momentum 😀

    Stay tuned!

  22. I've always had multiple tools for processing #RSS. Net effect, I can search back into my own database of interesting posts from the past.

Here's a gem from @anildash, regarding "Link In Bio" and Links in general -- regarding the miracle we know as the #Web.

    anildash.com/2019/12/10/link-i

A #hyperlink is an extraordinary piece of technology that's still partially understood -- especially by those who stubbornly push silos.

If only they had the faintest idea how swiftly and acutely the tide has turned.

Most innovators no longer use silo-platforms as a prime point-of-active-presence or interest.

  26. @atomicpoet,

The magic of a #hyperlink lies in the ability to use it for unambiguous entity naming. Unfortunately, this super-power is generally misunderstood.

  27. @blaine,

    Yes!

    The situation at Twitter
is actually a blessing in disguise -- IMHO.

Open Standards based apps are always challenged by #UI/#UX, initially. Once that issue is fixed, sustainable innovation happens and flourishes.

    @Mastodon is a poster-child example.

  31. @pietercolpaert,

The following excerpt caught my attention.

".. I think dependency management is an interesting proxy for the problem here ..."

IMHO, solving said issue requires loosely-coupling the following is key components:

    1. Identity
    2. Identification
    3. Authentication
    4. Authorization
    5 Storage

@Mastodon showcases aspects of the above while being open enough for other bits to be added via extensions.
