  1. This week’s edition of my @linkedin newsletter shines a light on the impact of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) across multiple computing eras—leading right up to today.

We’ve arrived at a moment where loose coupling principles are cool (and super useful) again.

Naturally, there are some live demo nuggets in the post to help bring it all to life:

  2. The Model Context Protocol acts as a universal translator between LLMs and data sources, eliminating complex platform-specific requirements. Our new open source MCP server for ODBC (mcp-odbc-server) enables seamless integration of any ODBC-accessible data into RAG pipelines.

  8. A single open source edition instance of our #VirtuosoRDBMS scales up to 100 billion+ entity relationship represented as #RDF triples (or quads).

This open source release eradicates performance and scale as hurdles that impede adoption of modern data access, management, and integration -- where hyperlinks function as cross-platform super-keys for #DataAccess & #DataConnectivity

  9. Woot!

Deploying entire #HTTPS sites from our #VirtuosoRDBMS just got easier (via native ACME protocol support)!

Ditto #KnowledgeGraph generation directly from the #Fediverse i.e., each post is automatically transformed into a #SemanticWeb nugget deployed using #LinkedData principles.

Native #GraphQL support also includes subscriptions via native #websockets support too!

  10. @aniltj,

"..And a core component that they are trying to break is the first class support for JSON-LD within the standard, that gives the data representation its power and flexibility."

    Yep!

Unfortunately for them, #Fediverse apps exist, and the broader community is much wiser due to the #Web20 experience.

#JSONLD is a #JSON dialect that makes it easier to harness the fundamental essence of the #Web:

Name everything unambiguously using a #Hyperlink to make #DataConnectivity magic happen.

  11. Yep!

Today, there's a massive #Fediverse comprising lots of entities and entity relationship types named using a #Hyperlink.

All of this data flows #DataSpaces without the disturbance of silos.

    Conclusion:
    The #Web has stealthily evolved into a #SemanticWeb, courtesy of loose-coupling 😀

  13. @volkris,

How about looking at the matter this way:

The #Fediverse is a federation of *loosely-coupled* systems that perform CRUD operations on structured data (#ActivityStreams) using a common protocol (#ActivityPub).

It's basically all driven by open standards vs proprietary #APIs.

Net effect, no instance has unilateral ownership of:

    1. User Identity,
    2. User Social Network
    3. User Content

  19. @alvaro,

Once the data is in a #DBMS (e.g., our #VirtuosoRDBMS) interactions occur via any combination of the following, courtesy of hyperlink-based data source names (#DSNs):

    1. Faceted Search
    2. #SPARQL queries
    3. #SQL queries -- directly or via #ODBC via #JDBC compliant apps (e.g., various #DataVisualization tools)
    4. #GraphQL queries

  20. @eb,

    Yes!

Look at what it has enabled so far, courtesy of its connectivity prowess:

    1. Global Web of Documents that unshackles access to documents from machine and operating system silos

    2. Global #DataSpaces that bring sociality to the digital realm

And there is so much more to come re:

    1. self-sovereign identity (#ssi)

    2. #identity #authenticity via #dpki

    3. #privacy

    4. data integration via Knowledge Graphs

Great to hear, and more to come!

#gptChat is a really handy tool for demonstrating the power of a #SemanticWeb fueled by incorporating #hyperlink based entity denotation into structured data representation.

  22. Higher resolution variant of the #screencast that demonstrates the use of GPT-Chat for generating a HowTo Knowledge Graph from text.

    What's happening?
Used a copy & paste sequence (via @datasniff) to create a GPT-Chat prompt that produced a HowTo using #RDF sentences.

Resulting data uplifted to a #VirtuosoRDBMS instance via #SPARQL.

  23. @bobwyman,

    Yes!

BTW -- using an #HTTP-based #Hyperlink as an Entity Name addresses the concerns you've raised.

Thanks to the #Fediverse, the power of hyperlink-base entity names will become increasingly obvious, as hashtags demonstrate right now 😀

    Here's a publicly accessible #GoogleSpreadsheet that demonstrates hyperlink-based unambiguous entity names (a/k/a #WebID).
