  2. I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead … The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon – Crystal Zevon

He was addicted to booze, drugs, guns and sex. Crystal Zevon fulfilled the wishes of her former husband to include all the bad stuff which she certainly does in “ I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead “ a no holds barred biography.  Crystal Zevon’s book is largely an oral history that consists of interviews with friends and family of their personal recollections of the dirty life and times of one of America's most underrated singer-songwriters Warren Zevon the son of a Russian immigrant […]

  3. Turn it up a little

Today is 6226 and and Roje’s daily prompt is:

List 3-5 songs on your current playlist that’s in heavy rotation

I don’t have any playlists. I like live music a lot so I’m usually listening to live shows or just albums. I have an mp3 player and I just load that up and I’m ready to go. What I have on changes frequently, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Tedeschi Trucks Band. Trucks is Derek Trucks and Tedeschi is Susan Tedeschi (we’re birthday twins) and they’re married. Song for song, show for show, they’re the best and tightest group I’ve heard in a long time. I have three of their live shows on my mp3 player right now. Also one Warren Zevon show, two Tom Petty albums and a Black Stone Cherry album. The closest I might come to a playlist is I always keep The Grass Roots, Their 16 Greatest Hits on my mp3 player. I guess The Grass Roots are like comfort food or something for me. Or maybe like a music reset after listening to a bunch of different stuff.

I also listen to SiriusXM on my phone a lot or through a speaker at home. (There’s probably a better way to say, “or through a speaker at home”, but I don’t know what it is) I bounce around a lot on SiriusXM, but five of the channels I listen to there the most are probably 60s Gold, 70s on 7, The Beatles, Liquid Metal and the Southern Rock channel. SiriusXM is great, it never gets boring because there’s so much choice, but it does get boring because they repeat songs a lot which bugs me and I probably won’t continue the subscription after the promotional period ends.

    I guess that answers that.

I really enjoy learning and finding out about new music I can listen to so if you have any songs, artists, albums you like please feel free to leave them in the comments. I listen to pretty much everything.

  4. #MusicMonday #Music #WarrenZevon

Today is the 50th anniversary of one of the rare albums that has no filler, the eponymous album from Warren Zevon. I can still remember the fist time I dropped the needle on it; caustic, acerbic and witty lyrics are sprinkled all over the songs here, especially the final track of Desperadoes Under The Eaves. If you've never heard this, it would be a well-spent half hour indeed.

"Let me break it to you, son
    Your shit's fucked up"

I said My shit's fucked up?
I don't see how! He said
"The shit that used to work
    Won't work now"

  6. WARREN ZEVON
    Excitable Boy
    1978 Canada pressing

The man, the myth, the legend gets last spin of the night.

Truly one of the greatest songwriters to ever walk the Earth, and a flawless album front to back.
    It’s actually quite embarrassing.
There isn’t a song on this record that’s not great.
    Not GOOD…
    GREAT.

A true one of a kind talent the likes we’ll never see or hear again.

If you’ve never seen it, go on YouTube and watch his final appearance on Letterman.
Zevon was dying, and Dave gave him the WHOLE show that night.

Even on death’s door, he performed immaculately, and in the interview was funny, self-deprecating and fully the Warren we’ve always known.
It’s a remarkable and incredibly emotional watch.

    Excitable boy, they all said.

    He sure was.

    Just the greatest.

    It's 1982, and #WarrenZevon doesn't even mention them.
