Great compilation / tribute to Joy Division on Italian label Vox Pop.

The second edition was not a gatefold (which makes sense since the inside of the gatefold is just blank white anyway). I especially enjoy the versions of “Colony,” “Love Will Tear Us Apart” (piano and vocals), “Shadowplay” (acoustic guitar driven), and Warsaw (which sounds a bit like Echo and the Bunnymen). The punk version of “She’s Lost Control” somehow actually made it a less interesting song (though it is still fun). Lots of bands here that I did not know.

I guess now's as good a time as any to note that "vox populi, vox Dei" apparently entered English as a warning from the 8th c. scholar Alcuin of York that the "tumult of the crowd is always very close to madness" so one should ignore those who say that the voice of the people is the voice of God.
