  1. Second, #Chinese companies are allowed to sell #cars in the US even at 100% tariffs; the number of #EV sales will skyrocket, and at least one of the 3 big car manufacturers will collapse. #Ford likely won't, as the only car they sell now is the #Mustang . They are a #truck company. It's likely #GM . #Chrysler will just be a #Jeep company. All the Big 3 have made oversized, overpriced, over-financed vehicles as their only innovation, and there is a massive shortage of fuel-efficient sedans, so the cost of all cars, new and used, is exploding. Japanese and German car companies are already not doing well. If China is able to sell reliable cars in the US at a starting rate of $20k, demand for Korean cars will likely completely dry up, as they are the low-income vehicle and they start around $36k. Nissan is nearly dead, the front runner in EVs with the Leaf, which I love, but will likely be bought by Honda, Toyota, or Mazda. Considering Toyota has basically no EVs, focusing on hybrids, and for some reason hydrogen, and the Prius's unique drivetrain patent is expiring soon, it would be smart for them to snap it up.
This will be good for all consumers if this happens. Car experts are all blown away by Chinese cars and how embarrassing our cars look by comparison, and even if they were just cheap alternatives, they would still be better for the consumer than what we currently have now. The car companies colluded to trap us all in unaffordable vehicles after destroying our public transit infrastructure and haven't made much innovation at all in the last few decades, and the little they did was only because the government forced them to, and now the entire control panel is just a cheap tablet, just to save money.
Will it put people out of work? Likely. But automation has already been doing that in the US. When people get mad that car and coal jobs die, it's not the jobs. It's the fact that they are union jobs. Increase union jobs in all sectors, and these protected sectors can die like they should without hurting the average working person.
