America is so starved for affordable EV options that the mere hope of a $20,000 EV drives hype cycles. #SlateAuto doesn't even have a factory yet, but people are putting down non-refundable deposits. Went to the Seattle Space Needle today to check out the #Slate electric truck in person. Initial impression on sitting in it is that it feels solid and looks clean. Very comfortable and had lots of headroom. Was expecting it to come off a bit flimsy or feel cheaply built and it definitely does not.
It had a custom light blue Space Needle themed wrap, which looked sharp with the white cab, and light gray interior panels.

Finally, they talk about their right-to-repair ethos. The truck has lots of predrilled/tapped "access points" and t-track rail for 1st and 3rd party accessories to use as needed. Slate plans to publish open-source CAD files and detailed specs on access point load capacities.

More from the interview: The truck is assembled with future disassembly in mind. This benefits the total life cycle sustainability of the vehicle as parts can be swapped out easily, either to repair, replace, or customize. Nothing is glued or bonded, no isocyanate foams that break apart. Everything can be unbolted or unclipped easily with basic tools.

Good interview with a couple of #SlateAuto's design team. One big ah-ha for me was the discussion about part re-use. The driver door armrest, flipped on the Z axis becomes the passenger door armrest. Flip it again on the Y axis, it's now the center console cover. 1 part, 3 uses. This reduces molding costs, carbon, investment, factory footprint, and builds economy of scale. The entire truck has been designed this way, with components often serving multiple uses.

#SlateAuto has a great social media marketing team. Everything they put out seems really authentic, doesn't feel salesy, and makes me want their truck even more, even when the truck is barely even featured.

It looks like #SlateAuto has removed the June 4th Olympia Washington event from their roadshow tour. I was looking forward to a short road trip to check out their truck prototype.
