Came across this self-made speech to text transcriber on the deaf sub reddit. I would love to have this for live conversations. I do not need one for the phone.
While my Speaksee (currently not working due to software issues) is great, it is expensive, and I depend on state funding (for work only) to use it.
If someone in the Netherlands with Raspberry Pi skills wants to make one I want to pay for it 😀
(I assume Dutch transcribing is possible too)

Conference VOD is good, quickly-available conference VOD is better
LISBON
With hundreds of panels spread across 15 stages, keeping up with the programming at Web Summit here has once again been impossible–but even catching the entirety of panels in this conference’s densely-packed schedule while also making it to my own meetings and finding time to write has been a challenge.
Which is why I have to commend the conference app that has been the subject of earlier gripes here for doing one thing quite well: video on demand of sessions on side stages. And Web Summit’s app has been serving this up not days or weeks later as at other conferences I’ve covered lately, but often minutes after a session wraps.
For center-stage programming, I’ve had the same option any of you do at home: Web Summit’s YouTube live video. This has also offered me the option of viewing on my laptop, although on any size of screen the YouTube feed comes with ad breaks.
Both of these options have bailed me out multiple times when I’ve taken too long to get from one place to another or just lost track of time.
(Note: The schedule included three panels I moderated, in return for which the organizers once again covered my lodging and are reimbursing my airfare.)
Having this resource at hand has also helped me do my job in a less obvious way: I can easily verify that my notes have somebody’s remarks and other panel details correct by skipping to that point in the recording.
This is a good and useful thing for a conference to do for its attendees. And while it might be a bit much to hope that other gatherings match Web Summit’s events in such aspects as, say, speaker-lounge catering, quickly-available VOD shouldn’t be as scarce as it is today.

If you can read #cursive #NationalArchives would like a word. Or a few million. More than 200 yrs worth of US #documents need #transcribing (or at least classifying) vast majority from #RevolutionaryWar era are handwritten in #cursive requiring people who know the flowing, looped form of #penmanship. “Reading cursive is a superpower." A thing I'm doing this summer at the London International Palaeography School.
'Transcribing and Editing Manuscripts: Palaeography after 1700'.

Thinking about #transcribing a novella by #FountainPen (similar to how Mountain of Ink uses LotR for testing ink samples, but at a much smaller scale!). There’s a 175ish pg book I’d like to spend more time with & my gut is saying this is a great way to do so.
Anyone have recommendations or tips for doing a first transcription project? My handwriting is quite terrible, so itd be for personal use as a handwriting practice project.
ETA: I have a book in mind, but I appreciate the recs!

I've started #transcribing my #SingerSongwriter #music into chord sheets, so I have a better visual reference than just the #lyrics

The National Archives has a lot of great citizen archivist missions. One of them includes transcribing the Revolutionary War pension and bounty land applications. Think of the stories you will find!

Willl spend part of this weekend #transcribing Civil War documents for a friend from high school; he hopes I can find out if the author, a #Confederate #POW, was a relative. #Genealogy #Geneadons

Okay so I'm #disabled my self, specifically #blind, but because I really don't want to speak on your guy's behalf before understanding your needs fully, would some of you lovely #HoH / #hardOfHearing, #APD, #Deaf and #Deafblind folks out there let me know if this is actually something you want before I open my mouth and go blabbing about it to everyone? :D
Essentially, I've noticed that on the fediverse and even more so on the internet in general, #AudioTranscripts are not nearly as well known or prioritized as alt text or image descriptions for #accessibility. I think this is pretty F'd up if you ask me. I realize that doing good #Transcriptions is harder in some ways because most people tend to think better visually than aurally, but I also know how useful it can be for some of my HoH friends.
So the question is this. Are audio transcripts important to you? Do you find them useful? And if so, would you like to see more of them around here at least for shorter video and audio clips?
Resources, examples, or tips on how to do audio transcripts properly, especially when it comes to scope of description, or how to handle sounds, complex vocals, and music are also much appreciated. I want to know what I'm talking about a little bit before I start advising others.
Thank you so much for your time. :)

#Journalists, I must tell you about Sonix.ai for the amazing #transcribing tool it is. I had an hour-and-a-half interview and the speaker spoke with a heavy French accent. Despite that, Sonix was able to #transcribe about 90% of it accurately, and very little needed to be edited.
