  3. I'm in the waiting space in my tattoo shop, and there's a kid here with their parent.. the kid is maybe 5 years old, and has bilateral hearing aids.

They just looked at me and said "did you know bats hear better than me?"

I told them bats also hear better than me, and they seem pretty chuffed by that.

  4. 🎧 Ah, the tantalizing allure of audio induction loops—because nothing screams cutting-edge technology like a glorified hearing aid system from the last century. 😂 But please, before diving into this riveting topic, remember to genuflect before the almighty useragent gods and their sacred robot policies. 🤖

  5. A contact of mine (from #YACF ) has drawn up a webpage as an attempt to explain a few key things about deafness, hearing aids and 'hearing as a deaf person' in the hope it will help deaf and hearing people understand and communicate better and more kindl

It includes a lot of extremely useful information and advice - give it a read. You don't know when you'll next meet someone with hearing difficulties.

  8. #introduction
Hello there, MakerKath here, well, you can call me Kathia if you want.

    I am a
    #transfem #EnbyGirl with a #disability #deaf , but does use
#hearingaids and #cochlearimplants to let me artificially "hear" when I can handle it.
    I'm also
    #sapphic / #lesbian , #neurodivergent and part of the #lgbtqia #queer community.

I'm hoping to really work on creating things from
    #art #animation #videoediting and #graphicdesign . I do enjoy being an #artist and will keep learning.

I was late in my self acceptance due to religious and social pressure, I knew who I am from a young age, and the disability that I am born with... people kept telling me they were trying to "pray it away" and/or "cure" me while trying to assimilate me into their "norms". After 23 years, I finally denounced the "norms" and "views" finding myself anew. I will never go back, only forward.

I wish I could thank the few people that told me it was okay to be myself back then, as well as all the people who will remind me to be myself into the future.

Thank you for having me. I'm hoping to be able to share some of my work into the future.

  9. I think we need to wrestle with this when thinking about #HearingAids and #CochlearImplants. What evidence do we have, what quality is the evidence, and how does this conflict with regulations, norms, and insurers who gatekeep access to care? Should we shift audiologists away from pumping pure tones for The Man to prescribe a device, and instead train audiologists as "communication therapists" (akin to occupational or physical therapy)?

  10. Hi everyone - thought I would do a quick one of these #introduction things! I'm George, I work in the gaming space handling paid social and general digital marketing for Frontier (Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution 2, F1 Manager 2022, and more!). I'm profoundly deaf with a cochlear implant which restores a considerable amount of but my directional hearing is wack as I haven't gone bilateral.

I'm here to meet new people and explore this exciting space, especially in the wake of recent Twitter events. I have three cats, an unhealthy paternal obsession with Grogu, and lucked out with both ADHD and autism ✌️
