I've been using VSCode for years--I think seven by now. For the most part, I was, and still am, happy with it; if you don't like MS metrics, you can switch to #VSCodium and it's very accessible even for a #DeafBlind user completely reliant on refreshable Braille displays such as myself.
However...
Microsoft's, shall we say, enthusiastic embrace of AI is warping VS Code, and I worry where it'll end. In short, I don't want all my eggs in one basket.
Sadly, the landscape of accessible text editors and IDEs is, to my knowledge, still relatively barren; #SublimeText has been dragging its feet (rather: utterly refusing to walk) for over a decade. If you want to get angry, this thread is the most appalling thing I've read all month (1), and the linked GitHub issue doesn't give me any hope this'll ever be addressed.
Am I really at the mercy of the whims of Microsoft or doomed to use a less feature-rich, extensible editor as my #IDE ?

Flow päällä tuosta suomen kielestä, viittomakielestä ja tekoälystä. Jatkan vielä tätä saavutettavuus teemaa.
Tämä on puhtaasti minun kokemus ja näkemys asiasta.
Kyseessä on tiedonsaanti. Kuulonäkövammaisena / kuurosokeana minulle tiedonsaanti on pitkälti muiden ihmisten varassa. Ihmiset valikoivat tiedon minkä välittää toiselle. Valta on siis näkevillä ja kuulevilla.
Vihaan tätä. Siksi käytän tekoälyä elävän ihmisen tilalla. Voin saada sellaista tietoa mitä muut eivät kerro minulle kun sitä pyydän. Voin päättää mitä tietoa saan ja mitä en tarvitse. En halua olla liian riippuvainen muista. Joskus on vaikea luottaa ihmisen rehellisyyteen. Koen, että suuri huijatuksi tulemisen riski on nimenomaan elävien ihmisten kanssa.
Olen nyt saanut viime vuosien aikana enemmän informaatiota ympäristöstäni kuin koskaan aiemmin. Olen oppinut paljon uutta eri asioista, joista minulle ei ole kerrottu aiemmin tarpeeksi tarkkaan. Ärsytti sekin, kun minulle naureskellaan, kun en tiedä jotain asiaa tai sen merkitystä. Tai sitä, kun en nähnyt jotain kylttiä tai muuta vastaavaa. Muille se on selvä homma, minulle ei. Tai info tulee äänimuodossa. Pyynnöstäni he yleensä kirjoittavat ohjeet lyhyesti ja nopeasti, eivätkä selitä kunnolla. Mukamas on vaivalloista kääntää (viittomakielelle) ja kuvailla sanallisesti yksityiskohtaisesti. Usein hätistelevät pois ja sanovat etten tee sillä enemmällä tiedolla mitään tai sanovat "ei sun tarvi tietää" tai "ei ole tärkeää".
Toivon tämän avaavan vähän ihmisten käsitystä siitä kuinka suuri valta heillä on näkevänä ja kuulevana. Ja vihaan sitä.

En halua olla liian riippuvainen muista. Joskus on vaikea luottaa ihmisen rehellisyyteen. Koen, että suuri huijatuksi tulemisen riski on nimenomaan elävien ihmisten kanssa.
