#tildes — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #tildes, aggregated by home.social.

  1. A lighthearted outage happened today: Tildes, a link aggregator site (somewhat similar to reddit), had a brief issue with their home page not loading.
The culprit? An article about people named Null having some bad experiences was posted, and a mod added the tag "null" to the post. 😂

  2. Many thanks to @stublag for inviting me to Tildes! 🙏👍

And thanks to @daniel for the boost, also appreciated! 👍

For those who don't know Tildes, it's comparable to Reddit before its enshittification. 💩

  3. @metin Thanks for the recommendation, looks good! Will take a closer look at #Tildes since I am dissatisfied with #Reddit alternatives like #Lemmy and #kbin so far.

  4. Do I know anyone with an account on Tildes (tildes.net/) who might be able to get me an invite?

    #tildes

  5. If anyone has an invite for tildes.net please send me a message.

    Tildes.net as a reddit-replacement is looking promising.

  6. Maybe someone here has an invite for #tildes ? Been lurking for a few weeks and I think I really like their approach to moderation.

  8. Are there any free floatin #tildes invites out there?

  9. @jaybot thanks for sharing. #Discuit does look like an early product compared to #Lemmy and other altenatives like #Squabble and #Tildes based on feature sets here discuit.net/Discuit/post/bztx0. I can’t even see comments.

It looks good on mobile though. Hope the devs make good progress to capture #redditMigration users

  13. If any of my mutual follows wants an invitation to tildes.net, let me know; I have five to give away. tildes.net is yet another reddit replacement. It's not as good as lemmy or kbin yet, but it has potential.

    #Tildes #Lemmy #kBin #reddit

  14. Anyone looking for a #tildes invite? Trying to populate these new services with good contributors and if you're following me, ho nelly, you know good material when you see it.

  15. Enjoying #Tildes as a Reddit alternative but how long until we get an actual app?

  16. #Tildes seems to be my favorite #Reddit alternative. Clean, functional layout. A focus on long form conversations. No memes & other low effort content. Looks great on desktop and on mobile.

Federated alternatives like Lemmy are promising, but so far I like the culture that Tildes has, and is probably the most analogous to my current Reddit usage of reading comment chains about topics I'm into.

Now the question is, how do I find an invite...

  17. After further playing around, #Tildes and #Squabbles are winning me over quickly. #rexit

  18. lifehacker.com/the-four-best-r

Because reddit is a dumpster fire right now, Lifehacker has rounded up some of the best reddit-like alternatives:

    - Lemmy
    - Kbin
    - Tildes
    - Discord (sort of)

  19. I made a resource for #Lemmy #kbin (and #Tildes) information. It's very early, but hopefully will help some people out. Includes new apps being developed for the various platforms, as well as some discoverability sites.

Feedback welcome, this is the first time I’ve done something like this.

  20. Just a friendly reminder for #reddit users participating in the #redditmigration, some alternatives that I've found good:

Checkout #tildes, it is a very nice community with a simple but polished aggregator interface. It is centralised and invite only (which frankly is good as it keeps bot/advertisers out) but I'm digging it. All users recently got 5 invites, so there are definitely some floating around.

Also, check out a #kbin server (But be wary of #lemmy due to the Devs pro-authoritarian stance & human rights ignorance on their main instance)
  21. Long shot, but I don't suppose anyone has a spare invite to #tildes? I like the focus on in depth conversations and I'd love to give it a try.

  22. I have Tildes invites for those seeking a topic-oriented discussion forum

Tildes launched in 2016, founded by an ex-Redditor (staff, not user), and has been quietly growing as a reasonably high-quality, high S/N, well-behaved site.

I don't make extensive use of it myself though I'll visit on occasion, and frankly far more often than I do Reddit these days.

Ping me in a DM for invites. I've quite a few to offer.

I'm going to reserve judgement on just who I do invite --- it's best if we've interacted previously and you've some publicly viewable content and bio here.

  23. People who can't handle people should not have power at social media sites/apps.

Whether that is owning #Maston servers, being crazy admins at #Tildes, admins at #Reddit, or moderators on Reddit.

Get people with people skills to make the higher level decisions!

  24. Don't bother migrating to #Tildes

I got banned after 1 day there.

Likely due to the proverbial "power abusing moderator".

A guy and I were talking about how a lot of the content on #Reddit is juvenile. I agreed with him and added that the Facebook group for my city was the next worst example I could think of.

Some other guy out of nowhere replied to me to tell me that he thought my comment was the most juvenile comment he ever read on Tildes.net.

I replied with a single word: "Adios!".

    I thought that was mild.

I skimmed his profile. He seemed to be a major volunteer at Tilden.net

A few minutes later I was banned ( no reason given ) and that exchange was removed by an Admin.

Be careful if you make an account there. Apparently if you are part of the staff you are free to gratuitously insult users there and ban them if they dare say something.

  30. BOTI Science & Technology: Best of interval compilations, suggestions?

... It's hard to assess significance in the moment, and day-to-day reports of science and technology advances are noisy. I've been looking for possible sources to use and am finding little that's satisfactory. I'd like suggestions....
