A true work of art, the Tay Bridge at Aberfeldy, also known as General Wade's Bridge. Designed by William Adam, it was built in 1733 at a cost of over £4,000 and remains in use by traffic today. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/aberfeldy/bridge/index.html

Nice walk today along the Tay at Dundee. I do like this bridge, especially with the afternoon sun shining on it.
Photo taken in 2024 on the 145th anniversary of the Tay Bridge Railway disaster in which 75 people died when the original bridge fell in a storm.

One of my meetings today took me a few storeys into the sky. Lovely view towards the West, over #Dundee Westend, Tay, and the #TayBridge

291 years ago today. Construction of the Tay Bridge, or General Wade's Bridge, over the River Tay at Aberfeldy in Perthshire began on 23 April 1733. It was formally opened in August 1735 and continues to carry traffic today. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/aberfeldy/bridge/index.html

It's eerie crossing the Tay Bridge, and seeing the piers for the original, lapped by the cold, tidal waters that swallowed a train and passengers one stormy night, as the old bridge gave way.
Ghosts, or perhaps now tombstones, to the past.

Another new #etching, this time of the #TayBridge looking from the #Dundee waterfront. Between the bridge supports are the piers of the first, 1878, bridge which collapsed after just a year and a half, killing all 75 people on a North British Railway train bound for Dundee from Edinburgh.
This is a 300x210mm brass plate etching, using #sugarLift for the bridge and #spitBite with wax resists for the hills and water.
