  1. Campaign for walkers’ access in Glen Lyon

'Walkers are being asked to unite to challenge attempts to close Glen Lyon hills this autumn. Ramblers Scotland has today launched a petition to challenge the Perthshire North Chesthill Estate's two-month ban on walkers accessing four popular Munros in Glen Lyon.'

  2. Just ordered me a Fermentation Project coffee kit from Glen Lyon roasters in Aberfeldy. This is James Hoffmann's next coffee tasting experiment. The full list of roasters taking part is still to be announced, but some are already offering the kits for preorder in September. So getting me one! 3. After labour, rust

Rusted old metal farming machinery on a sea of faded greenery.

Initial experiments with a newish macro lens for the Fuji.

  4. Lovely to see that the new Crannog is complete!

Crannogs were iron-age loch-dwellings, found across Scotland 2500 years ago. 18 once existed on Loch Tay, where the Crannog Centre is.

We used to visit the Crannog (replica) every year for halloween so, like so many people, I was gutted when it burnt down in 2021.

Wonderful to see it rebuilt - the first of three. Congratulations to everyone involved!

  5. Had a nice trip to the Fortingall Art Summer Exhibition today - held in the lovely Molteno Hall.

Over 30 local exhibitors, so a good place to find out about artists working in Perthshire.

It's on one more week and worth a visit if you're around!

  6. Well that was rubbish! We were camped at Comrie Croft for the weekend and had a lovely time. We got everything packed up this morning ready to be loaded into the car, but in the ten minutes it took me to get the car, the heavens opened and all our stuff got soaked! We have lots of stuff hanging up to dry now… #ComrieCroft #Perthshire #Scotland

  7. It's smoggy out there. Can barely make out Glen Turret beyond Crieff 10mi away. I'm thinking a lot of this is probably due to the Cairngorms wildfire 🔥 blown down on a northerly breeze :/

  8. Summer perfection

Boysenberries. A cross between raspberries, blackberries, dewberries and loganberries. My absolute favourite berry bar none - you can watch them grow, turning from red (more sour bite than a raspberry) through to dark black (more sweet & juicy than a blackberry). Can't beat 'em.
This mug-full took 2 plants took 2 days to grow 22 of the things. Gorgeous. Only pity is they disappeared kinda rapidly... 🤷🏼🤪

  9. The Fortingall Yew stands in the churchyard of Fortingall Church near the east end of the attractive village of Fortingall in Perthshire. It is believed to be 5,000 years old and is quite possibly the oldest living thing on Earth. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/for

  11. 2026-07-08 NLCs ~ 0235hr ±10mins

Some nice structures and shapes. Particularly pleased with the roll of low cloud/mist along the A85 through Strathearn in the distance.

Your regular reminder that these brilliant electric-blue clouds are increasingly visible due to increasing methane/water vapour/ozone interactions in the upper atmosphere.

  12. The spooky memorial near Dunning in Perthshire to Maggie Wall, "burnt here 1657 as a witch". No historical trace has ever been found of Maggie Wall, so the background to the memorial is something of a mystery. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/dun

  13. 2026-06-29 Noctilucent Clouds

Prints, cards etc are available via the website: shiny.photo/photo/2026-06-29-N

NLCs, aka polar mesospheric clouds, are sporadically visible when water ice particles are illuminated by the Sun when it is several degrees below the horizon.

The first display of summer 2026 I've seen so far. Quite a decent display with lots of structure and shapes in the clouds. Still electrifying.
