Most of the studies for Xyzal say its safer than previous antihistamines... but fuck that noise.
Long and short... if you're using seasonal meds and you don't have brain issues. Great.
If you are suffering from brain issues and you ARE taking seasonal allergy meds - whatever kind. Try not taking them for a month and see if you notice a difference.

Umm... putting this out into the world hoping it catches and someone down the line does something about it.
My friend was taking seasonal allergy meds - over the counter - Singulair specifically...
...and it caused massive brain issues with him. So much so it caused mental instability and has directly lead to his divorce. (He had to check himself into a mental institution for over a month and they sorted out that the allergy meds was a core part of the problem - The leadup and then the checkin broke their decades long relationship).
Since he has gotten off the allergy meds, his brain is great! His life is in ruins, but he can at least sort out whats going on.
You remember my brain issues? A lot went into it... One aspect was burnout leading to glucose depletion, but another core part was I was taking an over the counter seasonal allergy med. In my case it was Xyzal.
I stopped taking it... and SO MANY OF MY FUCKING BRAIN ISSUES WENT AWAY!!!!
I had sorted out the burnout, rested, and healed. And that took care of many of my symptoms. But I still had lingering issues. Lack of comprehension, lack of being able to speak, mental fatigue / severe brain fog / to the point that I had a hard time processing when people were speaking or reacting to me.
I can think now. I can actually accomplish stuff.
Seasonal allergy meds... even over the counter... cross the blood brain barrier (and neurodivergent folks often have a... more permeable blood barrier from what i hear... verify this one though) . Seasonal allergy meds can FUCK you up. Especially if taken daily.
I swear, this and microplastics are our generation's lead poisoning.

Seasonal allergy sufferers, what (if anything) works for your itchy eyes? I've never dealt with this at this level before. I am open to home remedies, OTC meds, Rx meds, old wives' tales, simple or complex incantations, and pretty much anything else.

It’s sometimes hard to tell if it’s winter plagues or #seasonalallergies that I’m feeling. The allergens in #newmexico can be insane but also I get my face sneezed in by children for a living. Today I tried cutting back the rabbit brush in our yard and now my eyes are on fire, so I’m leaning towards an early, hellacious allergy season. It’s only *February*. May God have mercy on our souls.

I am working from home today and I have the windows in the room open. The landscapers came and mowed the lawn a few hours ago. Ever since I have been in mild allergy land. The lawn mower must have kicked up a few gigatons of pollen and shot it right through my open window right into my nose. I’ve been sneezing and coughing and my eyes are itchy and my throat is scratchy and my nose is running.

The stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) tincture was created to help aid seasonal allergies (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/ptr.2763).
A nettle (Urtica dioica) extract shows in vitro inhibition of several key inflammatory events that cause the symptoms of seasonal allergies.
The tincture cannot be put on the same level of efficacy as an extract and one should question if the alcohol base had an indirect role of reducing symptoms. Since alcohol can reduce an immune response, thus the effects of seasonal allergies would be reduced.
For the couple of weeks that I tried it out, I barely noticed any relief over 30 minutes and when in comparison to modern antihistamines this is just a fraction of their potential.
In summary it was an interesting experiment, but in the long term its not worth the effort, especially if one has access to modern medicine.
