  1. Dear Friends of #cool times,

    - I am #sneezing. Just dust not hey fever, more like turning on the computer and other #tech with its #passive charging heaters and such like
    - turn of tech at night. It adds #heat ya don't need
    - yep going down is cool. Time for me to go downstairs.

  2. Aitch-oo

"Bless you", or some variant thereof: Certainly in English, I'd say this...

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Response

I had no idea how different the responses were to #sneezing -- and yet they all originate (mostly) from the Black Death.

In England, the classic rhyme of:

    Ring-a-ring o' roses,
    A pocket full of posies.
    A-tishoo! A-tishoo!
    We all fall down!

    Springs to mind: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_a_R

It's surprising how the simple act of #sneezing still has these connotations.

I'd love to hear more from anyone who's interested in this. :)

  3. Simulating a Sneeze

Sneezing and coughing can spread pathogens both through large droplets and through tiny, airborne aerosols. Understanding how the nasal cavity shapes the aerosol cloud a sneeze produces is critical to understanding and predicting how viruses could spread. Toward that end, researchers built a “sneeze simulator” based on the upper respiratory system’s geometry. With their simulator, the team mimicked violent exhalations both with the nostrils open and closed — to see how that changed the shape of the aerosol cloud produced.

The researchers found that closed nostrils produced a cloud that moved away along a 18 degree downward tilt, whereas an open-nostril cloud followed a 30-degree downward slope. That means having the nostrils open reduces the horizontal spread of a cloud while increasing its vertical spread. Depending on the background flow that will affect which parts of a cloud get spread to people nearby. (Image and research credit: N. Catalán et al.; via Physics World)

  4. People who watch videos of #sneezing or sick people show increased activity in #brain regions that represent an interface between the brain and the #immune system and react to potential dangers. At the same time, the concentration of #antibodies in their saliva increases.

  5. ❄️🤧 It’s that time of year—cold weather, cozy sweaters, and, of course, sneezes everywhere! But do you know how to respond in Hebrew when someone sneezes?

I made a fun video to teach you exactly what to say! Watch and learn how to keep the blessings going all winter long. ☃️✨

  7. I’ve seen the allergist for atleast a decade. Despite him having me on two nasal sprays not once has he told me there’s a right way to use them. It took a very thorough urgentcare doc to teach me this and other things today.

  8. Yikes!

"If you were to envision the kind of accident that would cause a person’s bowels to explode out of their body, you might imagine some sort of gruesome stabbing or grisly car accident. You’d probably never imagine that something as commonplace and harmless as a sneeze would cause this kind of ghastly injury – but that’s exactly what happened to a Florida man earlier this month."

  9. Traditionally I am not one who suffers from seasonal allergies too much. I get a little bit of a reaction now and then, but generally speaking it’s not a problem for me.

I am working from home today and I have the windows in the room open. The landscapers came and mowed the lawn a few hours ago. Ever since I have been in mild allergy land. The lawn mower must have kicked up a few gigatons of pollen and shot it right through my open window right into my nose. I’ve been sneezing and coughing and my eyes are itchy and my throat is scratchy and my nose is running.

    Stupid pollen. Stupid, stupid pollen.

  10. Hey, remember that post from earlier today when I said we were planning the next two vacations already?

We’ve already scrapped one of them. California in the fall has been eliminated. We might do a staycation at that time, or maybe something short that’s close to home. The reason? The second planned trip, Florida early in the new year, is morphing into a major deal. We’re going to take the budget for Cali in the fall and roll it in to Florida in the winter. We have buy in from one of the kids. The other one will still be in school but might be able to come along for part of the time. That would be awesome. Awesome, I tells ya!

In other news that is also related to that same post from earlier today, I feel sick! My head cold was much better yesterday, then a little worse throughout the day today but not too bad. Around the time I sat down to dinner it decided to kick me in the balls and it got so much worse. I can’t breath through my nose anymore. It feels like my nasal passages have been completely bricked up. This sucks. Even worse, dinner went bad on me tonight… twice. Twice? WTF, bypassed stomach? Two bouts of the foamies complete with portions of dinner coming back for a return visit? (TMI, I know) All while being unable to breath through my nose? WTF, body?

The good news is, the first episode (or is it episodes?) of the brand new Star Wars show The Acolyte was supposed to be released on Disney+ about 23 minutes ago. I’m off to get my Jedi Knight fix on, kids! May the Force Be With Us, and our vacation plans, and my nose! Ah-Choo!

  11. #Allergies #Sneezing

I do not usually suffer from allergies but something got to me yesterday that had me sneezing all day and forced me to take a couple of allergy pills (twice during the day) which eventually stopped the sneezing but also made me tired & groggy, forcing me into bed early.

Woke up w/o any symptoms, so hopefully the allergen that kicked by butt yesterday has passed on. 🙏

  12. The head cold persists. Today will be the fourth full day with it and I think it might be the worst day yet.

    Yup, I’m still sick.

My wife had it last week and I have it this week. For both of us, with the exception of our one experience with Covid-19, this is the only real bug we’ve caught since the lock downs started four years ago. We have no idea where it came from, but it has turned out to be a persistent little sucker.

In four days I have plowed through two full boxes of tissues. I just started on box number three. Last night before bed I casually mentioned to Jen that I wished when I blew my nose that something substantial would come out. Well, I got my wish. What was the nasal equivalent of an annoyingly dripping faucet yesterday has turned into a gushing rush of snotty awfulness today… too much information? Probably.

The upside to this is that Harry is home! Bellana has been home since Tuesday and has already gone back to Vermont. Harry is staying with us today and heading back to school tomorrow. I’m really happy to have him here, I just wish I wasn’t so sick so we could hang out together. As it is I am keeping my distance from everyone. I don’t have Covid, but we’ve learned some things since the lock down started four years ago, and hopefully I’ll be able to keep Harry healthy. I’d hate for him to be sick when he starts school again next week.

Okay, there’s your update. My box of tissues and I are going to sit in the corner of the living room in our vegetative state for a while. I have a couple of songs that are ready to mix. Maybe I’ll mess with one for a while.

    Too paraphrase U2, Achoo-babie.

  13. Because it’s a reflex action, it’s impossible for a person to sneeze in their sleep, although waving something irritating under a sleeping person’s nose may cause them to wake up and sneeze.
