I didn’t have an answer then. Nobody was asking me to have one yet — not out loud, anyway. But I felt the pressure of it everywhere: the expectation, somewhere down the line, to know. To choose. To stop wondering and start declaring.

CW: GenderQuest, brief cancer mention, coming out to family (mostly +)
Brother and I also had an honest-to-god phone call yesterday, which went very well!
He knows he was an ass and unsafe to me almost all of my life, but has consciously been working on his character arc in the last four years or so (relating to first cancer diagnosis).

CW: GenderQuest, coming out to family (mostly +)
Came out last night to in-laws. They were the last and most potentially problematic of the people I interact with regularly and feel the need to contact individually.
I created a group chat with FIL (right-wing asshole), MIL (right-wing, but not asshole), and Jalan, and came out.
Jalan had a follow-up already prepped. Including this:
"If you have questions, you're welcome to ask me. But treating [Linda] with respect and kindness is the price of admission into my life."
I love her....
MIL's response was positive, just asking for room for grace and getting name and pronouns correct, especially early on..
FIL's was brief and neutral. But Jalan really hadn't left any room for them to be negative in response.
So family has ranged from a couple neutral responses to a lot of overwhelmingly positive ones. Winning!
(This also left me room to finish changing over profiles on different social media, since everyone who will see them who needs an individual message has one.)

I don’t remember how I started. I just remember that at some point the words were out, sitting in the room with us, and I couldn’t take them back.
She didn’t say anything for a second. The TV kept talking to no one.
Then: “Are you okay? Do you want to talk? I’m here for you, you know.”

CW: GenderQuest, family acceptance (+++)
Worth noting, he also out-and-out apologized for making it harder for me to be 'me' when we were growing up.
The whole response was better than I could have hoped.

Today, my brother was the last of the immediately family I came out to.
I didn't know what to expect. He's always been two-thirds an asshole, and bullied me a lot when we were kids, even teens.
His response was beautiful.
I am loved.

Mom's response started with:
"Wow! Better late than never, for sure." She then recalled an occurrence in my childhood that left her bewildered at the time, but....
Cousin's started with:
"I dont think I could love you more than I do right now"

Came out to my mother and to the cool cousin (singular) today. Both went extremely well. I wasn't sure at all about Mom, but she was on board right away!

It's okay to just try things, and you can change your mind. You don't have to figure it all out first in order to make a perfect, one time coming out event.
While keeping the wellbeing of yourself and others in mind, go try it out and see if it fits you. It'll be okay.

I don't recall the year exactly, it would've been circa 2007. But in doing routine maintenance on my mother's devices and accounts, I saw an email she had written to my grandparents, and while the date is bound to be off a tiny bit I will never forget the opening words of the body: “Our worst fears have been confirmed."
I had confirmed for my mother that I was gay and that Ben and I were more than roommates.

I had only met one #lesbian before, my uncle’s friend, the one I had studied at that gathering years ago and decided I was nothing like. Michelle was my second. And she was so different. Brown hair. Ocean blue eyes. Pink lips you noticed immediately. She looked, I realized, like me.

in 2007, before he could speak — now eighteen and naming himself on his own terms. Angel Murphy Brown's mother calls him so special and so bright. Eddie Murphy, who spent decades apologizing for the cruelty of his early stand-up, met his son not with a flinch but with a yes.

I’m a #lesbian.
I didn’t know what to do with that. The next session with Lana was Wednesday. It was Monday. I had two full days to pretend nothing had changed. To be the same Lea who had walked out the door now walking back in.

Well, I had to out myself to my dad due to a situation that developed. I expected him to be much more difficult about that, much like my mom was, but it was fine for him and he said I should live my life how I want to live it. And yes, he said he noticed my breasts, even though I tried to hide it.
I honestly want to cry tears of joy right now. I expected the worst and what I got is love. It couldn't have gone any better honestly.

pent an entire week eating junk and feeling wiped out. Haven’t had a bath in three days and I’m still in the same clothes from three days ago. Coming out for me sure ain’t pretty or freeing. Please tell me this gets better 🥺. #comingout

When I came out as a trans woman, I decided to do it all at once. No living half-as-Old-Me, half-as-Real-Me. I had accepted the truth about my gender, and after taking 50 years to figure that out, there was no way in hell I was going to wait any longer.

Every therapist I had ever seen kept their work carefully separated from their life. A clinic. A waiting room. A certificate on a wall. But Lana greeted me at her front door and walked me in through her kitchen. She made herself a coffee while I stood at the island and took the place in.

My father told me, “This gay stuff. That’s a white thing. Sometimes it’s a Black thing. But it’s never been a brown thing until you. You’re the only one. You’re the first. You’re the one who has let this into our people.”

Aaron made a passive-aggressive joke that I only touched him when I wanted a baby. That was true. But it worked. I got pregnant with baby boy number two. Pregnancy softened me the same way it had before. A voice inside went quieter. I felt full of life, back on track. After this baby, I told myself, things will fall into place.
I kept lying to myself.
