Learning to use an RTL-SDR v4 has been on my bucket list for ages. Last week I finally started, tuned into FT8, and… ohhh myyy. 🤯

I'm amazed how it pulls in signals from soooo far away on nothing but the cheap stock antenna.

I was never a Pokémon kid, but now I have a strong urge to "catch 'em all" and fill in at least one Maidenhead grid.
Is that a thing?

@funkylab ok. I had to reinstall #ubuntu.🙄 A suggestion about the #sdrpp install instructions for ubuntu #linux: Pls indicate that rfone_host must be installed before the hydra_rfone_source module to show up in module list.

Okay. I’m getting segmentation faults when I try to start #gnuradio on #unbuntu #linux. I’m trying to use the #hydrasdr #rfone and I can get #sdrpp to work fine but not #gnuradio. 🤔

Whoo-hoo I got #ubuntu #linux running on my #hamradio laptop. #sdrpp works and so does #wsjtx with the #hydrasdr and #ic7300. The #laptop is an old #lenovoyoga 1st generation.

well we are getting there with the @m17_project #Module17 board, I can do much about the RX as there is a sync issue in the @openrtx firmware that needing sorting out, then should hopefully have better RX

SDR++ works on my cell phone, but what I realized was there just is not enough screen realestate to run a proper SDR program. And all of the single use apps seem very limited. But maybe a limited app is what is needed on a cell phone.

@ajh I do not know of any headless non GUI SDR applications. However, it should be fairly strait forward to implement such a thing with #GNURadio.

If you can live with a GUI, you can use #sdrpp. There it is possible to have multiple demodulators and multiple audio outputs. Using virtual audio devices, the #aprs ones can then be sent to #direwolf for decoding.

The later is a receive only setup but might be easier to set up.

Was able to hook my spectrum analyzer to #sdrpp via #soapysdr so it can be used as a #sdr for #hamradio.

Pretty sweet, but not much going on on the 2 m band with the antenna in the basement. Working on building a active magnetic loop antenna for #hf. That should be more interesting :)

In times of turmoil, upset, and uncertain futures, at least we have #WWV. For now, at least.
