It was Mastodon Monday for #POTA #ParksOnTheAir CW contacts . Always great to have a #MorseCode QSO with someone else from this platform. Thanks Dan @kb6nu for our Park-to-Park #QSO this morning. Here's what our contact sounded llike with background noise from cicadas.

First real #QSO from home. The setup is less than ideal, but I managed 5 QSOs in 90 minutes. (Including 4 band changes, I wanted to test the setup.)
Noise-floor this close to the house is more a ceiling than a floor: Most of time my noise-floor was around S7/S8.

Didn't hear anything on 40m but 20m was real good. Had one connection to the area around Paris, some 820km on 10m - is that sporadic E, or was that a "normal" skip?

So close. Today's attempt was scrubbed. 2nd attempt 6/1/2026 for #AmateurRadio #HmaRadio #QSO Number 10,000 from #POTA #parksontheair site US-7956. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate with Space and Terrestrial Weather.

I stopped at an estate sale yesterday and found a treasure trove of Ham radio QSL cards. (These cards are sent to and from amateur radio enthusiasts to confirm receipt of transmissions, often over great distances.) The aesthetic beauty and design of the older ones (especially those dating from the 1950s-1970s) won me over, so throwing down twenty bucks for hundreds of cards like these still seems like the right decision, even 24 hours later.

It's also safe to assume that NO ONE ELSE would've bought them and they'd have been chucked had I not wandered in off the street. I hope the radio gods are pleased with my offering.

I've built a 70cm/2m duoband Yagi-Uda and while it is not done yet, today I used it to listen to the FM crossband relay on the #ISS.
This is, by far, more complex than I ever imagined: Watching the phone for the position and frequency, keeping the antenna pointed at the ISS and trimming the frequency on the radio.
Not sure how I would manage to speak at the same time. (And logging the #QSO would be nice, too.)
