Last night about an hour before bed I turned off my phone.

Its funny how many times you (at least me) mindlessly check it. After a while the need for it slowly slows and then theres this weird sense of.. I dunno how to describe it..freedom? Like not wearing a car seatbelt.. like some invisible cage is lifted.. weird. In a good way.

I might start doin that more.

Smart Phone Bans in schools failed to positively impact academic outcomes based on research published by the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Strict phone bans resulted in a meaningful decline in student cellphone us - duh! But test scores have not increased on average, and at first, banning phones led to higher suspension rates.

The research included more than 40,000 schools between 2019 and 2026. FYI: Samsung is discontinuing its Messages app, and people are having to migrate to Google Messages, which uses considerably more storage (from 185 MB to 31 GB in my case).

This maxed out my storage, and I had to do some rushed cleaning just to get functionality.

Be sure you have at least 40 GB of free storage before migrating from Samsung Messages to Google Messages.

I keep seeing #scam voicemail from different spoofed numbers, all asking me to call the same number:

#search is slop. There's no reason to #report spoofed numbers, but I do it anyway. My #cellphone #provider swears that they do some kind of deep scrying on spoofed numbers, " Scam ID also catches spoofed calls because T-Mobile reviews beyond the incoming number and tracks actual call behavior." So how does their #spying fail to recognize these calls?

I'm getting several every day, Who can I reach out to to stop this bullshit?

Yes, I am a T-Mobile customer because my queer-platonic partner and I have a legacy Sprint contract that no other provider can beat. Because we were old when cell companies thought olds couldn't use technology. And we're also poors.

I think people, when assessing the power of the Apple A18 Pro phone chip being used at the heart of the new MacBook Neo, should remember this graph from AnandTech, posted at the time of the Apple M1's debut.

Note the performance trajectory of Intel's top tier consumer CPUs vs. that of Apple's A-series phone chips. In 2020, the Apple A14 Bionic SoC in the iPhone 12 outperformed, in single-core performance, Intel's i9-10900K CPU. That's right. This performance trajectory of Apple's phone chips vs. Intel's mainline CPUs was a major factor in Apple deciding to start rolling their own M-series CPUs for the Mac. (And the M1 grew out of the same A14 SoC shown here.)

This puts into question just how apt a descriptor of performance the term "phone chip" really is, I think.

First step into the future

And honestly something I should've done a while ago.

Just got my Tello sim, sure, my phone can use an e-sim, but just do a search for problems with those. Yeah, I think I'll stick to my physical sims thank you very much. Any how, what comes now is that once my old phone is charged, I'm going to move my Verizon sim back to that one, and put the Tello in my current phone and port Vik's / @lirleni number to it. I'll prolly have to update my phone number with all my gig apps, maybe tweak a few other things here and there, but we should be up and running by the end of the weekend (Monday), just in time for work.

Honestly I should've done this a while ago, I've had his number sitting at Verizon paying... I'm not sure how much a month, in case I want to recover his phone. Frankly I don't think I'm going to be able to recover it, I can get his iCloud through the courts, and we're going with that as we have some other matters that will require the courts for any how, so might as well save the money. Plus according to Verizon I only use around 12G of data for work, so we'll see how well a prepaid works, unlimited data only because its like $2-3 more than a 15G plan. If it doesn't work, I can just swap the SIMs around, and try again maybe with someone else down the road.

I don't think switching from Verizon will really save me that much, the package deal I have going is saving me on Internet and streaming, and I'll prolly lose both of those if'n I leave, so that'll likely eat up any savings I have, but still, I hate spending money unnecessarily. Oh, and there is a prepaid version of the 5G home internet, so that might be a cheap alternative, that just leaves the streaming service, and... Ehhh, not sure I need it. Besides, 🏴‍☠️ is always an option.

So, in a couple hours, assuming I'm not napping (tired from clearing the driveway), we'll start the process and see how many things break.
