Any #IT support in #Uppsala? found a laptop #hp #probook x360 11 g5 ee in the sopstuga. Hardware works, windows starts very slowly to the session of some young woman who lives nearby... We want to boot it on a linux usb but it refuses to do so. I try to access the #bios but it is password protected even removing all batteries does not reset password. What would you do about it? I wonder as well if i could /should contact my neighbour who throwed it to ask, but i am scared to freak her out. It seems to be a laptop that used to be from a her school in #uppsala but I have no idea which one the only clue is a message to connect to " SKOLNET " #skolnet #nvram

Chances are they have a ton of cheap #Lazer multifunction units for less than a full pack of #Ink needed to scan (!!!) with those shitty #Inkjet machines.
https://infosec.space/@OS1337/111822039091897824Also don't just ditch #hp for printers, but also #PCs and #Laptops, because their #ProBook series of machines do #VendorLocking of #RAM and will refuse to boot without manually confirming by pressing F1 on the devices' keyboard every single bootup (!!!), bricking #PXE-Boot & #WakeOnLAN / #WoL in the process just to #FUD #customers and #IntependentRepair service providers!
The problem is in #IT that #WhatWeAllowIsWhatWillContinue and we allowed Corporations like #Apple to sprearhead the #Enshittification with #GluedInBatteries, #SolderedDownRAM, #SolderedDownSSDs and #AntiRepairDesign!
The only winning move is to refuse to buy such shit!!
Get a @frameworkcomputer and a @fairphone / #Fairphone if #BuyUsed & #UseLonger isn't an option, because in #capitalism, your reciept is your vote - EVERY SINGLE TIME!

@arstechnica Sadly this shit ain't new - I have a 15+ year old #OfficeJet #AllInOne that will complain about lack of ink and will refuse to #scan or #fax without one manually clicking away the warning on the device.
But that's #hp - level #Assholeism, they do the same with #hp-branded #RAM on their #ProBook|s and #DeskMini as well as #Z-Series #Workstations and brick #unattended & #PXE #boot in the process...
