@Aethel @jwildeboer @mullvadnet @rysiek I for one use #PiVPN a lot, but I also have #Debian and #Linux administration skills, and run these on my own VPS'.

PiVPN (and #Wireguard) is software, is not a business per se. I subscribe to a VPN service which I provide to myself.
Serious geek skills allow for this.

**The point being: If people want to divorce and indemnify themselves from underlying politics of any provider, this is how at least one "middleman" is eliminated, IMHO.** If one feels like one can't trust any VPN provider, then at the end of the day, one needs to learn more #SelfHosting skills.

There needs to be some trust, somewhere.

I've been using my own private #VPN 24/7 for over a week now. It runs on a Raspberry Pi 3B with just one GB of RAM. Not a single issue. Throughput is fast enough for me, and it blocks ads through Pi-hole, which is installed on the same little machine.

BTW: kann man #PiVPN einfach drüber installieren oder wäre das ne neuinstallation? PiVPN scheint nette Analysetools zur Fehlerbehebung zu haben - aber ich keine Zeit für ne PiHole/VPN Neuinstallation. (Aber eigentlich auch keine für ausufernde Fehlersuche 😬)

New update to the #Homelab Wiki: Updated the existing guide to set up a #WireGuard #VPN server using #PiVPN, and added a new guide to set up a WireGuard VPN server, with a web UI, using the #wg-easy #Docker container.

PiVPN has been rock solid for me for many years, but after testing out WireGuard Easy - having your deployment containerised and having that web interface is pretty nice!

@tarnkappeinfo habe auch verschiedene Arten probiert und bleibe bei #Pihole in Verbindung mit #Pivpn Ruhe für alle Geräte im WLAN und durch die Listen sind alle SmartTV‘s und Alexa und vieles mehr geblockt mit den ständigen Log-Anfragen. Er ist auch einfach zu konfigurieren. Die neue Version 6 ist super gelungen

is there a fork of #pivpn out there that, uh, still fucking works? Cause it doesn't anymore

So I've been using #PiVPN for years to set up my personal #Wireguard #VPN server, and it works fine. However, it has been "sort of" deprecated, which isn't a huge deal since it doesn't do much after it sets up your native packages, but it also means it may go away or be unavailable for future installs, so I went looking for an alternative.

Enter this little script simply called "wireguard-install". It's basically just asks some simple questions and sets up Wireguard.

rebuilding my #PiVPN endpoint and it's now that I realize:

1. my old endpoint has been stable and working flawlessly for 18 months

2. I didn't fully document the setup 18 months ago

Pro tip:
If you have a server/pc you want to access from home, but have shit upload speeds, get a VPS (there are cheap/free options), set up pivpn, and connect botn your server and client to said vpn, that way you get good speeds AND access

yea I'm still kinda puzzled by this. #Wireguard on #PiVPN works fine on my iPhone 100% of the time but not on my MacBook, even after creating a new config for it. I don't think it's a config issue in the first place either since it's worked fine while also having problems before - on my Mac. A "handshake" issue of some sort according to the logs.

Ran the debug check on the PiVPN server and it shows that everything should be okay which is what I expect since it works reliably on all my other devices but the Mac. Seen some similar reports for #macOS Ventura though and them suggesting to install and use Wireguard from the terminal instead of the GUI app.

I've no idea why my self-hosted #Wireguard #VPN (through #PiVPN) can be so reliable on all my devices of various platforms including my #iPhone but not on #macOS. More often than not when connecting to the Wireguard connection, it just doesn't have any access to the internet. I always thought it's my VPN server that's causing the issue but as mentioned, it never fails on my iPhone, ever.

Na super Raspberry mit PiHole gerade abgeraucht.

Also mal schnell nen kleinen VServer mit PiVPN aufgesetzt.
Jetzt sind alle wichtigen Geräte mit PiHole und Wireguard im Netz. ;-.)

The #PiVPN project has ended. For those who don't know, this project was a suite of scripts that make it easy to set up your own #VPN server.

The good news is that it's basically just a collection of scripts that draws from your system's package manager. If you're currently hosting a VPN that you used PiVPN to set up, I see no reason why you can't just keep using it like normal.

I've cloned the repo for potential future use.

Basically solved this, albiet not thru my #PiVPN... but if I pointed that #PiZero (running PiVPN) to the #Pi4 hotspot then I have effectively achieved my end goal 💪
