Had some more time to play around with the newly acquired #PineNote from @pine64

I got a new user account setup using systemd-homed which gives you an encrypted storage for that user. This will require you to log in with a password each time you fire it it up. I consider that a good thing! I also registered my public SSH keys into the systemd-userdb, which then allows me to log into the device with this user account. During the SSH login, you'll be asked for a password too - which is used to decrypt the home directory. Logging out, and the home directory is locked again.

Also played around with various apps, especially #Xournal++ and #Rnote. Both highly capable.

What currently irks me the most is that the #GNOME desktop environment is really not designed for monochrome displays. There are so many different shades of grey everywhere making it really hard to read the screen. This is even with "High Contrast" enabled. GNOME really need a different working mode for eInk displays.

#Flatpak seems to work fine, but recommend to install apps using the command line and add the --user argument to flatpak install. The user data partition has more storage space available.

Next up will be to get #Syncthing and #OpenVPN setup properly (openvpn3-client installed easily). Considering if I want to setup e-mail on this device or not. With that plus backup (I'll be using #PikaBackup) set up, its getting ready for some real daily use.

🔐 Actualizări și compatibilitate mbedTLS:
• Rezolvă probleme legate de manipularea certificatelor și handshake-ului TLS atunci când OpenVPN este compilat folosind backend-ul criptografic mbedTLS în loc de OpenSSL.

⚡ Stabilitate în gestionarea conexiunilor:
• Corectează mai multe bug-uri legate de deconectările neprevăzute, scurgerile de memorie (memory leaks) în timpul procesului de re-keying și gestionarea erorilor de rețea.

🛠️ Optimizări pentru rutare și tunelare:
• Îmbunătățește gestionarea rutei implicite și a interfețelor virtuale TAP/TUN în versiunile recente de Linux și FreeBSD.

Actualizarea este deja disponibilă în depozitele oficiale ale proiectului și este puternic recomandată pentru menținerea securității infrastructurii VPN! 🚀

@hugovalters WireGuard ist wirklich klasse. Ich habe allerdings festgestellt, dass es nicht in allen Netzwerken funktioniert, da UDP teilweise gesperrt ist. In solchen Fällen hat OpenVPN für mich einen klaren Vorteil. Ich hoffe aber, dass WireGuard irgendwann auch eine TCP Option bekommt.

Tout petit souci #openvpn pas grave mais agaçant : quand je mets ma route par défaut dans le tunnel openvpn, mon ordi utilise la moitié du temps son IP du wifi de chez moi en source, et le serveur openvpn drop les paquets (tant mieux).

Never heard about GL.iNet before but their new travel router (Mudi 7) is a really solid device as far as I can tell after initial setup and poking around a bit. Based on #OpenWRT and full of really comprehensive configuration options. 5G, WiFi repeater, 2.5G LAN, replaceable battery, #OpenVPN and #Wireguard out of the box and a lot more stuff. Rather expensive but you get a lot for your money. We’ll see how it holds up in the coming months.

I'm trying to use #openvpn on #emacs. I just installed openvpn-mode from MELPA (https://github.com/anticomputer/ovpn-mode) but I can't get it to work.

I start a openvpn session. It asks for my desktop sudo pass (to run openvpn). If I type the right passwd it stalls - I need to C-g. If I type the wrong pass, it asks for it again. Then I type the correct pass and I connect to the VPN get the username/password prompt.

But, the minibuffer stays "opened" (5 lines) and it starts to behave strangely. It wont go away
