'“Sam #Neill’s performance shaped the trajectory of my life,” says Jake Kotevski, a #palaeontologist at Monash University in Melbourne. “For as long as I could remember, I wanted to be a palaeontologist, to be Dr Alan Grant. But also to share his values – quiet intelligence, a sense of wonder, a cool head and a protective father (or father figure). Jurassic Park has been with me forever, through good times and bad. There would be no Dr Kotevski without Dr Grant.”'

Hi to anyone with an interest in #Scottish #geology and its history. After decades of amassing a dozen works by #HughMiller, it's time for me to be passing them (i.e. selling!) to other custodians.
Hugh Miller was a 19th century polymath, #stonemason, journalist, #Christian and #palaeontologist. Most importantly he was a superlative observer of geological phenomena, and able to lucidly describe the wonders he saw in rocks/nature.
If interested please send me a message

I don’t think aspiring for a specific occupation like #palaeontologist is seeking a dream. I think you’re driving towards a vision for your career. A dream is fuzzy, unclear and unfocused. A vision is crisp, clear and focused.

Being a #palaeontologist is like an occupational identity to me so it’s not like just a job. Being a lecturer at this uni or that uni is a job.

I am a #palaeontologist interested in #marine vertebrates. PhD on #ichthyosaurs.
Currently, I am a researcher in the transdisciplinary project Collecting Norden at the University of Oslo where I study whales in Nordic museum collections and #collection bias.
From May 2023, I will have my own project ECHO at the Natural History Museum in Oslo, on convergent evolution in whales and ichthyosaurs.
One book on biodiversity loss in Norway, Brennmaneteffekten (2021).

CW: Smutty/Erotic comics/prints + ... squids....?
I'm physically wrecked after day 1 of #thoughtbubble, but the lovely comments from people who came to our table really made my day - THANK YOU.
Also this is what happens when a #palaeontologist come to look at your smut.

Morning Mastodon, I've got a shoutout for you.
Adam Yates, an Australian #palaeontologist and #palaeoartist has just joined sauropods.win: @alcootatooter
Adam has never been on Facebook or Twitter, so he's a Mastodon exclusive, which is pretty cool: you can only follow him here folks!

The French #palaeontologist Yves #Coppens, who co-discovered the famous hominid fossil known as #Lucy, has died at the age of 87.
Coppens was part of the team that found the most complete remnants of an #Australopithecus afarensis in 1974 in Hadar, Ethiopia.
The team nicknamed the 3.2-million-year-old fossil "Lucy" after the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", which they listened to while they were working.https://www.rfi.fr/en/france/20220623-french-archaeologist-yves-coppens-papa-of-lucy-dies-aged-87
