As Masons, Freemasons are connected to the use of stone and the stonemasons trade, albeit symbolically today. Two specific stones are used in Masonry, the Rough Ashlar, and the Perfect Ashlar. They symbolise the beginning of a tradesman's work, and the desired outcome of his skill in the Craft.
