Against all odds and to the surprise of everyone (including myself), my wife and I are actually pretty much finished with preparations for the convention we're working this weekend to promote "(Not) A Hero Story"!
There were plenty of setbacks, of course. But we took them in stride and adapted our plan to the best of our abilities. Some things changed. Some things were cut. In the end, though, I think we've put together a memorable presentation that is close to our original vision.
A lot of friends and family have said they'll make the trek to Lincoln to see us and that support helped carry us through. We included many of them in the preparation, so, from start to finish, we haven't done this alone. It has warmed my heart and restored a bit of my faith in humanity, to be honest.
But anyway, I'll be sure to share some pictures from this weekend here when it's all said and done. Wish us luck! As the first convention we've ever done, it's a tiny bit terrifying 😅
Seriously, though, I had no idea how much work went into making zines 😮💨 These things really are a labor of love!

Anyway, I'm slanderoid. I'm just some guy from a tiny #rural village in Midwest, USA. I came to #Mastodon after #Twitter turned into a medical waste dumpster fire. I'm turning 40 in a week and I feel weird about it :kirbysweat:
I'm a #geek. (Or a #nerd, I'm not sure which.) I love #horror of all kinds. I used to play a lot of #VideoGames but not so much, lately. I'm more into #movies and #music at the moment. I love #books and I can often be found #reading something. My wife and I run the biggest #LittleFreeLibrary we know of from our front lawn.

The first four chapters are available now, but I'll be releasing a new chapter every month until next September, so stay tuned to see what happens next. (Don't worry: every chapter is a self-contained story, so there aren't many cliffhangers.)
I'm glad to finally share this story with other people! I said I've been working on this project for the past couple of years, but, really, it has been in the works for over a decade at this point. It's a labor of love and I'm really proud of what it has become.

I can't believe I forgot to share this on here sooner, but I've been making some posts on Patreon during the lead up to the release of #NotAHeroStory talking about the history of the story. We're pre-celebrating tonight because tomorrow I'm going to finish editing what I have written for my story! 🥳🥳🥳 (And we're doing it tonight because I have to work all weekend 🤮) We're getting Indian for dinner, we got a bottle of wine and some gummies, and we're going to watch Speed Racer. Fuck yeah 😄
I had some time to work on stuff and, even though I should be working on editing, I decided to print and fold letters instead
My wife's uncle has a stall at the Renaissance Fair in Omaha this weekend. He's been letting me give out promotional stuff for my story/book thing... We pretty much ran out last weekend! We're going to make fifty more before we go back on Saturday 😅
But it's been working! The Patreon page has gained three (3) free subscribers. I'm pretty impressed since there's absolutely nothing there yet. (I'm going to start publishing it in September so we don't have anything ready for the website/Patreon quite yet.) And we were invited to have our own stall at the Lincoln comic con thing in October. I've got a lot to get ready but it will be really cool, too.

We're in the big city today to pick up the painting of my book cover. The artist sent me a digital version but the real deal is so much more vibrant. It's gorgeous! 😍 I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out!
I'm halfway done writing my book! It's gotten a lot longer than I expected it to be but I'm pausing here to edit it and, hopefully, trim it down. There's still another half to go after all 😅
I hope it's a fun and worthwhile read. (Please don't judge it by the first page - I haven't touched that one in a while and it's going to change.) This story has lived in my head for a long, long time so I hope it's worth the paper it's printed on!
It's probably a little silly but, since I was using the productivity game, Spirit City, while I was working on my story the last couple of months, I decided to make the characters from the story inside the game. Since I'm not very good at drawing (at least, not realistically), it was nice to be able to use the game to help me visualize all of these doofuses! 😅
Anyway, I thought I would share them with you all. The first four are the four main characters, Marty, Fiona, Neko, and Astrid. There's more info in the alt text if you're curious!

We've been on break all winter but we're getting ready to start up our daily #LittleFreeLibrary posts again in February. We've got tons of new #books, new #movies for the #FreeBlockbuster, and lots of donations for the #LittleFreePantry we put up last year. This year, we plan to add a #FreeLittleArtGallery as our last feature. Our #SilentBookClub has been hit or miss since we're in a #rural town, but the one that our friends run in the nearby city has really taken off!
As for myself, I've still been #writing almost daily. I've got a lot of material ready for my book-thing, #NotAHeroStory! In fact, I'm going to do a big round of #editing soon to trim it down. (If you're curious, it's a #fantasy that doesn't take itself too seriously but involves a lot of #PersonalGrowth and #community building. Plus #beer, #boobs, and #dragons.) I'm hoping to start #publishing it a little later this year!

Things have been a little different lately: for one, I've been #gaming a lot less often and #writing consistently instead. I've got a #fantasy project coming up soon that I'll be posting about here with the hashtag #NotAHeroStory. I'm excited (and nervous) to share it with all of you beautiful people!
Another change is that I haven't been here as often as I'd like lately because it's #LittleFreeLibrary season! With the current climate in #USPol we've decided to get deadly serious about our #LFL this year. We've become an Official #BookCrossing Zone, started a #SilentBookClub, and even (finally) become a PokeStop in #PokemonGo. We've got big plans for #Halloween that we're going to start working on soon...
Otherwise, I'm still into #horror, #metal, and working on getting more #tattoos. Some things never change, after all 😅
