Dude, that's my #N900 with an OS from 2007. It's using #rsa and I had to make an exception in two places to even make you connect. On a private network.
#Quantum computers are the least problem here.

I'd like to connect a usb ethernet dongle to my nokia #n900 on #PostmarketOS

If I connect the dongle to other computers, it uses the module r8152. So I configured and compiled the kernel for pmos.

Now I can load the module, but the eth device still doesn't show up.

In the wiki https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Nokia_N900_(nokia-n900) , there's a quote:

"With some work, it most likely should work with manual activation."

How do I do this?

It's pretty crazy, but you can successfully run Gemini CLI on Nokia #N900 running #postmarketos. Sure, you'd better run it on top of bash, otherwise Gemini is getting very confused with results, but it's working and it can actually do things!

Sicelo brought #phosh to the venerable #N900 using #wlroot's pixman renderer as backend. It's not snappy as the device is too underpowered for that but awesome that it works !

Picked up an old #Nokia #N900 for cheap, turned out to the micro USB port was broken.

So I had the opportunity to learn SMD soldering. Both harder and easier than expected, does require proper tools.

The plan was to install #PostmarketOS or #maemoleste and use it as a portable mini-computer.

Might still try but I kind of remembered why I don't play around with Linux on old hardware...

It takes too much time and I have too many other things I want to do, and in the end there is always compromises when working on old undocumented hardware.

But it's type II fun so I always come back to it after :-)

I realize there's maybe 5 of us so no one's going to notice the suck we suffer :P

I wrote a proxy to lie about user agent. Annoying.

But free, public, mutual #Web is dying. How are kids going to learn if they have to jump through advanced hoops to access anything? Where will the new generation come from?

Maybe we should create an overlay network for nerds only.

You place an order for a Furilabs #FLX1. Roll a D20:

• 1-6: The Deutsche Bank PhotoTAN app doesn't work, rendering the phone useless. You throw it in the bucket of shame with the other Linux phones.
• 7-14: Several important apps don't work and you have to find terrible workarounds. Many things suck. You struggle on out of bloody-mindedness. At least you have a decent terminal.
• 15-19: It is actually an adequate replacement for your iPhone.
• 20: It is actually an adequate replacement for your Nokia #N900.

so does this whole thing with #apple mean we will finally be getting a fully functional #linux phone that doesn't suck? it would be great if fxtec started selling phones again. the last legitimate linux phone was the nokia #n900 running #maemo and i really wish we could get back to those days.

I hope one day #LinuxMobile phones will become pocket sized and only need charging every 5 days, but until then, I'm only carrying my museum piece.

@MattiP Jag lyckades få igång det mest på min #n900 förutom en modern webbläsare. Men använder inget förutom terminalen ändå :D

Nokia #N900 lanserades den 11e november 2009 och var en av de allra sista Linux-telefonerna som kom ut med fullt QWERTY-tangentbord.

Jag firar 15-åringen med att uppdatera Maemo Leste, kickar igång Frotz och spelar lite textäventyr i soffan.

Påminns om att jag måste köpa nytt batteri och försöka hitta en stylus.

Today is #Nokia #N900 15th anniversary.

Nokia N900 was released on November 11th, 2009 and is one of the few last mobile Linux devices.

It is also the last device to be shipped with the Maemo operating system.

Wow, #postmarketos feels right at home on #Nokia #n900 with #i3wm. Performance is amazing and overall it’s very useable. No graphical browser though (as in it works, but way too slow) but didn’t expect that anyway.

Privat sitze ich an einer Linuxkiste und mit jedem Boot meines Pflicht-Windows-Arbeits-PC stolpere ich zwangsläufig über Dinge, die mir an Linux besser gefallen als an Windows.

Mit Smartphones ist es ähnlich. Hatte ein #N900, ein #Linux-Smartphone wenn man so will. Lange her. Seither leide ich unter #Android, wissend wie gut #maemo damals war.

Seelig sind die Unwissenden.

I miss this. When there were options. #nokia #N900 #maemo 13 years ago.
