Bought the first smartphone since #N900. I got myself a 2nd hand #Nokia 2720 Flip, marketed with 28 days of standby time. It runs #KaiOS. My hope was that I could somehow tame it using stuff from #bananahackers. On first boot, it required me to consent to it sending data to HMD. Immediately after connecting to WiFi it tried sending 105 packets to IPs owned by #Amazon and #Cloudflare. Opening the clamshell makes it try phoning home: 42 packets each time. My #openwrt router blocked everything.👍

Picked up an old #Nokia #N900 for cheap, turned out to the micro USB port was broken.
So I had the opportunity to learn SMD soldering. Both harder and easier than expected, does require proper tools.
The plan was to install #PostmarketOS or #maemoleste and use it as a portable mini-computer.
Might still try but I kind of remembered why I don't play around with Linux on old hardware...
It takes too much time and I have too many other things I want to do, and in the end there is always compromises when working on old undocumented hardware.
But it's type II fun so I always come back to it after :-)

@fell Xfce should be usable on #N900. But you should really take a look at Maemo Leste, you get working system for little effort. #Maemo, #MaemoLeste, I guess? -
I've got my N900 running Maemo Leste on the microSD card. It works pretty well, though it is slow but that's probably because it's on the card instead of internal mmc. It's a lot more like standard debian compared to OG Maemo, which is nice. Still a bit of an issue with the battery moving around. I have some electrical tape somewhere, that should pad it out enough to be stable. I think this weekend I'll try and install the new usb port.

@angelastella no creo que ese sea el problema, transmission-daemon es liviano.
Pero el #n900 es muy escueto, solo tiene 256mb de RAM y un arm single core del 2009. Debería andar igual, PERO el sistema #maemoleste esta muy verde y quizás también por ahí venga el problema. -
Estuve probando usar el #N900 con #maemoleste para correr transmission, amule pero no le da el cuero.
Quizás si sigo en este rabbit hole le meta #postmarketos para seguir testeando -
bueno, por ahora el mejor uso del #N900 con #MaemoLeste es en apps de terminal y el cliente de mail de nokia,que anda barbaro
