I'd like to connect a usb ethernet dongle to my nokia #n900 on #PostmarketOS
If I connect the dongle to other computers, it uses the module r8152. So I configured and compiled the kernel for pmos.
Now I can load the module, but the eth device still doesn't show up.
In the wiki https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Nokia_N900_(nokia-n900) , there's a quote:
"With some work, it most likely should work with manual activation."
How do I do this?

It's pretty crazy, but you can successfully run Gemini CLI on Nokia #N900 running #postmarketos. Sure, you'd better run it on top of bash, otherwise Gemini is getting very confused with results, but it's working and it can actually do things!

someone shared his #n900 with #postmarketos installed encourages me to buy that phone and do the same as he did. still, one problem i have before i buy is battery lifetime. is it worth it?

Picked up an old #Nokia #N900 for cheap, turned out to the micro USB port was broken.
So I had the opportunity to learn SMD soldering. Both harder and easier than expected, does require proper tools.
The plan was to install #PostmarketOS or #maemoleste and use it as a portable mini-computer.
Might still try but I kind of remembered why I don't play around with Linux on old hardware...
It takes too much time and I have too many other things I want to do, and in the end there is always compromises when working on old undocumented hardware.
But it's type II fun so I always come back to it after :-)

#openstreetmap started blocking the mapping app I am using on my Nokia #N900 :(

I realize there's maybe 5 of us so no one's going to notice the suck we suffer :P
I wrote a proxy to lie about user agent. Annoying.
But free, public, mutual #Web is dying. How are kids going to learn if they have to jump through advanced hoops to access anything? Where will the new generation come from?
Maybe we should create an overlay network for nerds only.

You place an order for a Furilabs #FLX1. Roll a D20:
- 1-6: The Deutsche Bank PhotoTAN app doesn't work, rendering the phone useless. You throw it in the bucket of shame with the other Linux phones.
- 7-14: Several important apps don't work and you have to find terrible workarounds. Many things suck. You struggle on out of bloody-mindedness. At least you have a decent terminal.
- 15-19: It is actually an adequate replacement for your iPhone.
- 20: It is actually an adequate replacement for your Nokia #N900.

@fell Xfce should be usable on #N900. But you should really take a look at Maemo Leste, you get working system for little effort. #Maemo, #MaemoLeste, I guess? -

I'm still using ConfClerk on the #N900 .
I hope one day #LinuxMobile phones will become pocket sized and only need charging every 5 days, but until then, I'm only carrying my museum piece. -

Today is #Nokia #N900 15th anniversary.
Nokia N900 was released on November 11th, 2009 and is one of the few last mobile Linux devices.
It is also the last device to be shipped with the Maemo operating system.

@danct12 #Nokia did a (soft) launch party for the #N900 at the BFI on the South Bank in London in September 2009.
